Top DE shaving countries?

I wondered if any of you guys know (or can guess) which countries have the highest proportion of DE shavers as oppossed to cartridge shavers? In which countries is DE shaving still King?

I got thinking the other day: where on earth are all these DE blades that are produced ending up? Is DE shaving popular in Russia - hence the proliferation of Russian blades?

That list is about right. Remember though, DE shaving is predominant there because it's what people have access too. It's not because they are shave-geeks like us.

India
Japan
Pakistan
Egipt

I'm surprised Japan is in the list. I had them down as being big on cartridges despite their history of blade making.

I wonder what kind of kit the everyman uses for their DE shaves in those countries. Any ideas of the big brands in these places?

A lot of DE blades are still being made in China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, S. Korea, Japan, Egypt, Israel, Russia and Germany.

My guess is that those are the places where the shavers are too. I think the DE has quite a following in Africa as well, simply because it is (well, can be) about the cheapest way of shaving on the planet.

Carts cost a fortune so low gdp countries with large populations should be the most logic candidates?

My guess is:

India
China
Pakistan
Bangladesh
Nigeria
Indonesia

A local antique dealer went to Pakistan and told me he couldn't find one DE at any of the bazaar or markets. It was kind of him to look.

Even Turkey does not make the list , I have never sen so many cartridge razors in the supermarkets, you do however see the odd pack of Derby's lying about the shelf.

If you buy any you have to fill in a forms, Name , address, phone number...!

Is DE shaving popular in Russia - hence the proliferation of Russian blades?

I suppose no. Livinig in Saint-Petersburg the 2nd biggest city in Russia I checked only 2 common blades - Gillette Rubie and Sputnik. The paradox that St. Petersburg is the origin city of different other well-known Gillette Astras, 7 O'clocks, Nacet's etc. Very sad actually:(

I think many companies in such countries (e.g. Parker and Lord) are mainly focused on the export markets, because of the higher profit margins.

China probably still is a real DE country.

Germany does not make the list, Its mostly cartridges.
I did read a article online that stated north America and Europe were where the vast majority of people used cartridges.
The rest of the world mostly used variates of single or double edged razors.
But that cartridge razors were rising in popularity.

You have to give details to get a pack of blades? Is that because of the possibility of them being misused for something like ....errr....murder? :confused1

I travel globally a lot. This week in Brasil and Argentinia I saw zero DE equipment at over 40 stores (got some decent creams and AS though). The one country that impresses me with DE stuff is Germany - have seen massive variety at regular drug stores. But I've not been much into DE for less than a year.
