Help with DE shaving

Working my way through the blade assortment. I‘m amazed at the difference. I tried one named Trig that was like shaving with tweezers but the next one called Shark was very comfortable. I have one Feather that I’m saving for last.

Welcome!

Like you, I get great results from the Schick Hydro Sensitive (new name for the Hydro 5) cartridge. I can usually get about 18 shaves from each cartridge, which for a $2.50 cartridge means about $0.14 per shave. That's about double my per-shave cost using DE blades.

Since learning how to shave with a DE, I learned that I don't need to press the razor into the skin--with the Hydro this meant fairly frequent ingrown hairs and with the DE this meant razor burn. Once I learned how to shave using a very light touch, my shaves improved with both kinds of razors.

I think learning to get a good shave with a DE razor is worth the trouble because you can then get good shaves with just about any razor. In my case it took a couple of months of practice but I'm glad I learned.

Slickness is a sickness
Welcome to the show. 🙂👍

...all you lack is practice. You certainly do not need to spend more money. I suggest you stick with the 'Fatboy' and the same blade, soap, and brush for a month and see how you go. Concentrate on prep, angle, and pressure, and take your time.

Great advice (and more in the other replies).

You don't indicate exactlly how long you've been shaving with your DE razor(s), but I believe that with patience and careful practice, you can improve your results and get shaves that are better than (or at least equal to) any cartridge razor.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask more questions, and post your progress...as much as we like helping, we really like a good success story. 🙂
