Hi,

Avatar change for the upcoming year. I really didn't see quite what I wanted from the stock shots left over from the series. So I took a crappy cell phone camera and aimed it at a photo hanging on my wall. This is from a shot my wife took with a crappy film camera at a race track somewhere around Y2K. And blew up to the largest size that negative could get away with.

At least I am in a fire suit and holding a helmet with goggles. I cut the car of that time out of the shot and we can squint at the poor avatar photo and imagine that's me alongside a Colonial Viper..... ;)

Squint a *lot* now.... :p

Edit: Hey! The snow cap, which the site at this moment, adds helps a lot! :)

Here's my upcoming avatar...

I simply blended my current avatar with the symbol... Guido's cylon helmet is too much of a self fulfilling prophecy for me... 😉

Cheers!

Hi,

I was looking for something similar only from TOS. And I really didn't come up with anything.

I did come up with this, which is from TOS Pegasus. So, not Galactica or the Fleet from TOS.

Maybe as I watch the series I'll find something.

Hi,

I just thought of this: I could pay homage to the equipment used in TOS. Tektronix.

This is what they used when the show was being made. It doesn't lend itself to being an avatar. well, I could cut it down to Tek, which is what we who use this stuff call the company.

But I liked the previous logo a whole lot better....

But, it's an obscure reference at best. I'm probably the only one in the restraint who knows of this stuff. I'm sure there are others site-wide. They would get all confused should I have this as my avatar as it has nothing to do with shaving. Well, maybe if I bust a CRT and use a glass shard for a quick shave..... (!)

If one didn't know that was a CRT as part of the logo, it rather looks like some sort of a spacecraft! ;)

One of my early jobs I used a tektronix terminal that seemed analog. You needed to clear the screen when it go to the bottom or it would just keep writing on top of itself. It was super heavy and needed to sit on a sturdy desk.

[off topic] if there is a red green sabbatical I think that duct tape should be an implied exception and you are free to use it for anything shave related.

You could make a razor blade holder for shaving out of duct tape.

You could make a new handle for your brush knot out of duct tape.

You could make a lather bowl out of duct tape.

I think the first one could be kind of a hazard to your health though.

Hi,

My first CAD terminal at IBM (1981) had a Tek graphics screen alongside a 3277 terminal. The lash-up was called the 3277G. Worked like what you describe.

I had several Tek instruments. My favorite being a 7854 digitizing oscilloscope. Meant I could use a O-scope and not have to have a separate spectrum analyzer for data communications signals. It could convert the time domain signals to frequency domain. Handy! And, the first of its' kind, although that is the norm these days.

And a host of these TM-500 series modular units, which are what they had all over the bridge of the Galactica.

They used a Tek graphics unit for all those 'scanner' images. They actually shot them drawing the vector graphics as those units really did. That is no special effect.

I still have a few Tek analog O-scopes in use along with several of those TM-500 modules. I'll take some pics of such once we get going and things slow down a bit.

Count as? Similar to being on a waiting list I would say. So getting on the waiting list puts you out (if in GRUYERE). Exercising your waiting list spot or paying during GRUYERE is allowed if joining the list was prior to the start.

Variation on rule 7 bullet one.

One caution though: I would postulate that asking for gear now and get them during restraint on monthly basis is not showing restraint. It is being extremely clever though.

Guido
Woo hoo, I have been on a wait list since August so I won't have to bail on the purchase 😆.

2025 hasn’t started yet so I would say go ahead.
Done. Thanks.
