TOBS Sighting In Vancouver, BC !!!

Ladies & Gentlemen, I almost fell on the floor today at House of Knives located in Richmond Center. I looked in their display cabinet & their before my eyes was TOBS shaving cream. And here is the kicker ... reasonably priced.

I scored a tub of Mr Taylors. Awesome scent. I had been hearing how great the scent was & of course B&B is right again.
The sales rep advised me to smell the Sandalwood which I am not a big fan of the scent but to my surprise I really liked it. So I was left with the difficult task of choosing between the two (SWMBO was with me or I would have bought both)
BMAN40 if your interested they have a tub of Jermyn St Sensitive Shave Cream which has a nice fresh clean scent. I know you have been looking out for sensitive formula creams lately so you might want to check it out. They also have in stock tubes of Sandalwood, Lavender and a tube of Mr Taylor's with the aftershave.

And last but not least ... Dovo shave cream in Eucalyptus, Menthol or Almond.
Plus the Conks.

Just wanted to spread the great news cause I didnt think I would see the day in sourcing some TOBS in Vancouver.

Swarm now. Converge :w00t:

Please define reasonably priced.

Sure, prices are as follows + good ole Canadian taxes: :001_smile

$20.00 for tubs of TOBS
$15.00 for the tubes of TOBS
$49.00 for Mr Taylors tube of cream w/ aftershave
$25.00 for Dovo shave cream
$6.00 I think for Conks or around there

Ok go

Park Royal store as well. I guess it's safe to say House of Knives stocks ToBS product. Including brushes.

btw, they had Conk products all the time.

What's the deal with that ICE razor, any good?

YAHOOOOO!!!! I have to get into the Nanaimo store and see if they have it. I sure to hope so!! I have been wanting TOBS Rose forever - maybe they will stock that. Although, I will settle for any old one at all!! And, if I have to take the darned ferry in to Van, so be it!

Thnx!

Actually I couldn't wait to go down so I used that old fashioned invention - the telephone!

The new TOBS is here! The new TOBS is here!! YEAHHHH!

Thanx again for the info - I bless you and all yer offspring for the next three generations!

(I mostly use T&H from Momentum or Trumpers from MASC which are both in Vancouver downtown, but I haven't been there for ages and I AM ALMOST OUT!! ARGGG! I was getting scared I might have to drag out a puck of Williams )

YAY!!!! SAVED AT THE LAST MINUTE!!!!

This is a major major break through. TOBS is the only brand ... (till now ) that could not be purchased locally here in Vancouver. The other two T's ... yes.

But the irony here is it took a specialty store for Knives and not mens grooming to have the smarts to recognize this niche product & shrewdly seized this business opportunity in a small competive market such as Vancouver.

However, I can see why the bricks & mortars here in Vancouver were treating TOBS like the plague since it is only half the price, provides a terrific shave and would potentially cut into the flogging of the higher priced 2 T's they were stocking to meet their criteria for their business model. TOBS is not luxury enough I guess. :001_tt2:

I was disappointed I did not see TOBS Shaving Shop but like you say they might be able to bring in whatever their new found customers are requesting.

Has anyone spotted that Ice safety razor there; TTO, black handle, $65? Not an expert in razors, but it looks like Feather Popular...

Hmmm...

Looks like this is in BC only, as all the BC stores are part of a separate franchise.

The rest of us are out of luck.

Oh, well. Maybe Poulin will start carrying TOBS!

Ditto on ToBS for the HoK store in Victoria @ Mayfair. Some beautiful Dovo straights for sale in the display as well. One was already gone.

Thanx to this thread I am now the owner of a lovely big tub of TOBS Mr Taylor!:lol::lol: I haven't checked the scent yet - hopefully I like it. I have the same name so it seemed a natural!

I saw some of the 'ice' products like scissors and such that they have, but didn't notice their razors. I only noticed the Merkur Progress for $99.00 :)scared:) so didn't bother looking at anything else. I will look next time I go to the mall.

I finally asked at the Nanaimo shop what they do once they sell a straight to someone - 'who do you recommend your customers to for sharpening their new straight razors?'. I got this goofy look from the shop owner who thought I was merely dumb as a post and said, 'well you just have to buy a strap!'. Hmmmm...... super advice. (My mama gave me enough of the 'strap' when I was a kid thnx.)

They have no one they recommend, no one they know, and in fact didn't even really seem to understand that the dern things get sharpened. That is the level of service I figured they offered. They ain't gonna make much dough that way - but then again, I should be wiser and start advertising in the local paper for 'wanted to buy - Dovo straight razors that you poor saps can't figure out how to use - I want em cheap though! And, throw in the 'strap' too eh!'. Yeah, that would probably work!

However, it is not all bad - I have a nice new tub of tobs. :001_tt1:

Best plan over :thumbup1:. I call dibs on the vancouver market. :001_tt2:

edited to add: Don't forget to make sure to tell'em that it doesn't shave right because they've ruined it. Make'em feel bad, so you can drop their selling price even lower. :a51:

I took another look today and it appears they have two of those Ice razors. One with the black handle, the other one bigger and all stainless. Both TTO.

With utmost respect Riley, I wanted to chime and let you know that for years I have been trying to bring in TOBS to Momentum Grooming, but until recently they have not been interested in a single, independant retailer here in Vancouver. The fact that you are finding this brand in HOK is likely due to their buying power as a multi-location retailer.

Our business model is now and alway has been to run a bricks and mortar store that only sells niche brands of mens products, with a heavy slant towards wet shaving and classic brands. Over our 5 year history we have consistently modified our product mix to meet the needs and interests of fellow wet shaving enthusiasts.

While I sell a tub of Truefitt and Hill shave cream priced at $35.00CAD, I also sell Proraso, on the shelf right next to it, for $7.00 CAD. Men will buy what they want, and at a price point they are comfortable with. It comes down to preference, we don't 'force' our clients to only purchase high priced products.

We value your business, and would love to be the vendor of choice for more B&B members. If we can get TOBS we will do it.

Kind regards,

Graham

NIce to see you are cruising B&B Graham!!

You sold me my very first tub of T&H - it was Rose. I am still in love with that product!!! I hope things are going well at Momentum - it is a very classy place and I really enjoyed the couple of times I was able to make it out! One time I would love to be able to have the time and book a shave. It will happen! (I live on Van Isle and don't really make it out too much).

I picked up a TOBS as I say above, but, it doesn't really touch the the T&H in my opinion. But, there are a lot of opinons on this site!! (But, the T&H Rose rocks!! Still my favorite and primary goto cream for testing new razors and blades.)

Keep up the good work!! (You selling any blades other than Merkur yet?? You should!)

Thanks for the info Riley.

It does come at a bad time, when I decided to clear out a bunch of unused gear

I will drop the hint to my family - Richmond Centre is only five minutes from home...

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments! Rocketman, we now have Feather blades here - $8.00 for a pack of 10, same as Merkurs.

To all Canadian B&Bers, if there is ever anything we can do, or any product you wish us to look into for you please let me know. I am always at the front of the house here and both my business partner Robert & myself handle all in store and online purchases, packing and shipping. We would be happy to answer any questions and will make sure you all are looked after in a timely and professional fashion.

Hey if you guys have a minute, check out this little movie we shot to give a sense of what our hot towel shaves are like. The entire thing, including the music, was written and produced by Alumni of the Vancouver Film School. It turned out pretty good!
