Common Scents That You Have From More Than One Brand

Lately I’ve been going through some of the premium British shaving creams and have noticed that many of the popular brands carry scents such as Almond, Lavender, Lime, Rose, Sandalwood, etc.

Some of these scents are similar… others are not. While I detect differences between each of the Rose shaving creams that I have tried, those differences do not seem quite as large as those I have noticed when trying a variety of Sandalwood shaving creams. For example, the Cedarwood and Sandalwood cream from Castle Forbes is a very different scent from the Sandalwood cream from Geo F. Trumper, which is very different from the Sandalwood cream from Taylor of Old Bond Street.

When there are greater differences between these common scents, I’m more likely to purchase more than one of the same flavour.

How about yourself? Are there certain scents out there that you enjoy so much and that are varied enough from brand to brand, that you have more than one of the same flavour? If so, how many?

Thanks!

I have a handful of tobacco scents, all different but with a similar earthy goodness. Also quite like green scents, as in meadow and cut grass, a Fougère component. There is a common thread, but enough individual qualities to warrant the variety.

enjoyed my many rose creams!!

My wife says that i have no common "scents"...oh wait... I do have...

...three soaps/creams with lavender notes: MdC Ooriginal, TOBS Lavender, and Dr Selby. Three lime: TOBS Lemon & Lime, TOBS Lime Zest, and Razorock Lime. Three based on Acqua DE Parma: Razorock xXx, Razorock xXx Fresco, and Stirling Piacenza. Two orange: Stirling Pharaoh's Dreamsicle and HC&C Citrus Bomb.

Hi Sarimento1, I've always loved all of your high caliber photos... keep them coming! Although Truefitt & Hill's Rose is now discontinued, I do have a sample of it that I have yet to crack open. I've also been curious about D.R. Harris's Rose and their Pink Aftershave... my wife thinks I should get some.

GPJoe, Considering how much I like orange, I'm going to have to look into that Dreamsicle and Citrus Bomb.

I have a variety of takes on Sandalwood ( Trumper, TOBS, Proraso, Stirling, etc ) ... which is odd because sandalwood is not a scent I particularly <love>. That said, there are elements of each of these takes on sandalwood that I enjoy.

Vetiver: Eufros Vetiver de Haití, Proraso Cypress & Vetyver, and Stirling Faskally, Saponificio Varesino Desert Vetiver. Different expressions of vetiver, all delightful.

Fougères: MdC Fougère, Stirling Varen, and two alpine variants, Speick and Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica.

Citrus: Fine's Italian Citrus, Razorock XXX (both AdP dupes), Eufros Argos.

Barbershop: Mike's, Shannon's, and Eufros Gea. More of a catch all than a specific scent, but a family nonetheless. 🙂

I guess the only common scents that I have at this point is the Sandalwood from TOBS and Trumpers. They're not similar other than the name, but I like them both. I used the T&H Sandalwood and didn't like it enough to pay the higher price for it. I also don't care at all for the Proraso Red Sandalwood scent. So these are it for now.

In the past I was "into" peppermint. I had the TOBS peppermint, the AOS peppermint, and the Kiss My Face cool mint. I subsequently loss my interest and only keep the Kiss My Face in the rotation.

My current interest is in Bay Rum scented cream. I just posted about the Montana Natural Shave Company product. I'm on the lookout for more.

Fougere: MdC and Stirling Varen

Tobacco: Ariana & Evans Vanille de Tabac, Maggards Tobacco and Leather, Chiseled Face Sherlock,
Stirling Gentleman, Stirling Haverford

Aventus clones: Ariana and Evans Sparticus, Stirling Executive Man

Lime: TOBS Lime Zest, Maggards Limes and Bergamot

Barbershop: Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber, Maggards London Barbershop, NO Barr Barr

Menthol: Chiseled Face CRYogen, Noble Otter Orbit, Proraso Green

Sandalwood (both from the past): TOBS and Proraso Sandalwood

Note: many of the above soaps are samples. Great way to try different soaps and scents 😃

I've had several knock-off versions of Acqua di Parma, but Razorock XXX is the one I keep going back to. I once had a Catie's Bubbles version I quite liked, but it was limited edition and I never saw it again.
