TOBS recommendations

I am thinking of switching from Prorasso (I have used since I was a slightly younger lad) to Taylor Products. I understand Taylor is very well made, the issuse I have is picking a scent. I like to keep my creme, ASB and clonge similar and just dont know where to go first. I generally have a winter and summer scent. I cannot sample scents really in Canada so it makes this all a little silly :skep:

Anyone using full Taylor line ups please pony up opinion before my VISA takes the brunt.

Mr. Taylor or St. James are my two Taylor cream favorites. Excellent performers. Nice, clean refreshing scents. More for summer than winter, but sometimes a gray winter day calls for that kind of scent.

Shaving Shop captures perfectly the essence of what a classic barber shop emodies in the shave experience. Its scent is clean & fresh. Its got a very subtle citrus note to it as well. I think the more you use this scent the more it will grow on you till you find you can never be without it. Its a complete joy to lather as its subtle scent hits your senses and announces you are about to experience the closeness of a classic barbershop shave right in the comfort of your own bathroom.

The scent only lasts as long as the shave. And what a shave :w00t:

If they have them there, pop into House of Knives and see if they are stocking TOBS.
I picked up a tub of Mr. Taylors last week here in Vancouver. I agree, Mr. Taylors is an incredible scent

Shaving Essentials sells a full TOBS Sample Pack. That will give you a chance to try them all and then decide which one(s) for you. I'm not sure about shipping to Canada, but John's a great guy - I'd drop him an email.

My favorites are the lavender and Shave Shop, almond and sandalwood.

I have three samples Avocado, Mr Taylor, and St James. They are all good scents..mild and not at all long lasting. All this lathers very very well and I don't think you could go far wrong with any of their offerings.

Avocado is a good start for sure (it does not smell like Avocado's though).

I've tried them all. Scent-wise, I prefer St. James, followed by Eton College. In terms of performance from the cream, avocado is indeed quite nice.

I would go with Rose. I loved that one.

Avocado, I wasn't a big fan, the scent was a bit strange for me. I'm going through Citrus and Lime (or Lime and Citrus), it's ok but no more. They all work well!

Taylor of Bond Street Jermyn Street Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin is what I'm using now. AWESOME. I'll be using it for years and years...

If you're ever in the Mississauga area, PM me and I'll give you a sample!

Thanks everyone,
Just ordered a tub of Avecado and Jerymin. I will let everyone know how it goes once they arrive. I am assuming a travel tube of Lemon & Lime and Mr. Taylor will follow quite close behind!

The only TOBS I've used is Jermyn Street. I got it in a trade and it's awesome. It is, by far, the slickest shaving product I've ever used. If the rest of TOBS products are that slick I look forward to trying them.

Personally I like the smell of the St. James. The rose doesn't smell quite as nice, but it may be a slightly better performer.

I agree with going with the sampler. There are a lot of good TOBS creams. Recommendations are nice, but using them is better. $20 for the sampler is reasonable and gives you all of the scented TOBS creams.

And don't be so fast to get rid of your Proraso. I have 3 TOBS creams and Proraso. The Proraso still gets tons of use.

I swung by Mertz in Chicago on State and noticed that they are now carrying TOBS. Didn't seem to have any avocado in, but I smelled the Almond and wished I could eat it - it smelled that good.
