What's new

Things besides shaving that you do in an "old school" manner?

my fiance and I go swing dancing
i wear hats (fedoras, newsboys, flat caps etc)
I'm never without a pocketknife (handmade by a friend)
i carry a revolver versus a semi-automatic
i still have cash in my wallet, and use it to pay for stuff

I use the bell sound of a rotary phone as the ring-tone on my cell. I wish I could get the numbers to go click-click-click when I punch them in, but haven't found that particular file yet.

I'm a big fan of comedy flicks, in black and white, both before and after the invention of sound.
My cell phone which is also my PDA besides having that same ring tone has another sound when a SMS is received, a quote by Groucho Marx: "More bad news!", I love it.

I am never without a knife.
I carry a pen (Fisher Space pen, high-tech, but always works, and never leaks)
My kitchen has a food processor, and mixer, but rarely used. (only for hummus)
I love shooting film, and can develop, and print my own black and white images.

I will hold a door open if someone is behind me, and will let ladies through first.

I treat my girlfriend as an equal, not just an accessory or kitchen appliance.

If I am in need of something, I will do my best to make it myself.

I work on my own cars.

I bicycle wherever I can.

I....
Wear Wool-felt hats (Stetsons)
Smoke pipes and have a small but considered collection
Love jazz, especially Miles and play a Les Paul thru an old H&H amp.
Hate brand-names and think Harvey Nicks is for stupid people.

use an Aurora fountain pen (Italophole that I am)
wear leather soled hand made shoes

do my own yard work and keep my own garden
respect my clients
love my wife and will not ever stray

Great thread with some great replies here!

As for me...

Saying ma'am and sir, cooking many of my meals, holding the door, actually exercising and sparring, smoke cigars, taking time to chat with neighbors, walking to/from errands, occasionally surprising the lady friend with a gift, shop for business clothes on my own/solo, bowl in a league, the list could go on and on.

So much wonderful tradition has been lost through the years by today's youth, so I'm doing my part to keep some of it alive (mid 20's).

...Keep my religious and political beliefs mostly to myself... Cheers,Tom

Just like a good bartender I generally don't talk to people about sex, religion or politics.

You wouldn't believe how many people I **** off by refusing to discuss those topics.

Go figure!:001_huh:

As for hobbies etc that are old school I guess DE shaving is it.

Raised all six of my kids the old school way(when they screwed up big time they got a *** whippin)

to often!

Odds are I will think of things that pop up in my mind after I post here, but so far:

Have no desire to carry a Mobile phone, let alone have one clamped to my ear everywhere I go (I don't want to go around looking like a "cyborg" LOL).

Have a tough time understanding why people in large cities think they need a 4WD SUV to go to the mall? When I lived in Alaska I drove a 2WD Ford Ranger and had few problems, and if I did get stuck I had a pair of tire chains and shovel to get me out.

Like my blued steel S&W and Webley Revolvers more than a Glock.

If I am in an area where I can legally openly carry the above mentioned revolvers, I carry them in a leather Brauer Bros. field holster.

Like my Lee-Enfield Rifles more than an AK47 or other "tactical" rifles.

Don't have to drive around until finding a parking space that is less than 20 yards from a store entrance.

Will try to maintain or repair items instead of buying something new.

Still listen to casstte tapes.

There is more, but can't think of them right now.

I do a lot of the same things mentioned here by others.

I wear cuff links
I carry a pocket knife, or three. I don't see how this is old school.
I treat my wife with respect like the slave, er, queen she is.
I wear dress hats.
I use an umbrella.
I also wear driving glove when I am driving a car. Where else?
My wife and I pray together.
We attend church together.
I love to shoot muzzle loaders and hope to get a flintlock someday.
I like to play card games.
I love to admire and use swords, although I have no real training.
Oh, here is a new one, I wash my hands after using the restroom.
I hold doors for others, especially women.
I open the car door for my wife and help her with her coat.
I use a money clip.
I also do something called "wet shaving".

I am sure there are other things that could be added to this list.

I have a mechanical watch.

I carry a pocket knife.

I use a money clip.

I drive a stick shift.

I write checks.

I play and collect Ukuleles (AD on hiatus until my 3 babies are out of daycare and I can afford it again, also...I'm way better at aquiring them than I am at playing them).

I try to be respectful and polite to others.

I carry a pocket knife.

I fix everything that I can around the house (appliances, woodwork, renovations, our cars, tractor, etc).

Related to the last post...I try to never pay someone to do something that I can do myself with some hard work and/or research.

I will never stop wearing a wristwatch.

I am married and am trying to raise a large (by today's standards) family.

I listen to classic jazz.

I read the classics.

I write-in IKE for every presidential election. OK OK, I'm kidding there.

I expect my own business to be my own business and I try to stay out of other peoples' business.

I believe in trying to write and speak properly, with punctuation, capitals, and non-abbreviated words...even in an email. AFAIC, txting is the only place in my life for 'new generation speak'. As much as I hate to text, it's a necessary evil for work.
