What's new

There is no zen

For those out there that read about BBS shaves, zen, and OMG what a difference than cartridges. I want to share my story. Although I only have been traditional wet shaving for only a little over 2 months. I have acquired a few razors, creams, and aftershaves, and 2 brushes. Cartridges did not bother me at all. I always got good shaves with them and shaved every 3 days. Never got ingrown hairs, redness, or bumps. Was using the Schick Quattro and cheapest canned gel I could find. I never hated shaving either, never was a bother. I also would rarely cut myself even though I was shaving straight down which at the time I thought was WTG.

So why did I choose to go with traditional wet shaving? It just seemed fun that is all. I hope I never lose sight of that and a healthy variety of products and razors can help in that. Second reason was that it is significantly cheaper as long as you keep all the AD's in check. So is shaving any different for me now? Not entirely I still get the same great shaves as I did with cartridges. Have I noticed my skin to be healthier? No, but I know its better for it even though I can't tell a difference. The only difference I can tell is that I shave everyday now and that I do like shaving and how it feels after I have shaved.

For me currently there is on zen, there is just shaving more slowly for me. I don't get BBS shaves nor do I try to tear up my face to get them. Shaving is still shaving to me but I do look forward to it and I like trying the other creams and using a badger brush. There is no going back for me, but there is really no difference for me.

Just wanted to share this with some that are looking for a difference or the zen in it. But I do like shaving with my ball-end tech and Astra SP :)

I have no Idea how to achieve zen during shaving but I have found I enjoy my shaves best when I am Relaxed and Focused at the same time.

I'm a Buddhist, and I agree your post is very Zen.

A few koans for you to ponder:

"Before enlightnment, wet brush, make lather.
After enlightenment, wet brush, make lather."

"Why did Bodhidharma travel to West Coast Shaving?"

"What is the sound of one hand slapping on Skin Bracer?"
