*KOFF*...SLANTS. :c1:

Which could be either DE or SE, depending. But I also like shavettes, and hair shapers, and SE razors both Gem and AC.

Never used an injector and don't intend to. [shrug] Also not big on plain DE razors.

Coincidentally, I was reminded by a good friend today, "I always have to ask you because you never do anything like anyone else."

Well, yeah...guess that's right.

O.H.

Well, duh, Chuck!

How did I write my post above without using the S word?

I have the strongest bias for my OC slants. Same as 'favorite'?

In fact I joined B&B as part of the search to replace my two DE rotation of an Old Type and a Merkur 36 slant, both of which I passed on to the next generation.

Years of patience brought me the FOCS and the RR OC Superslant.

B&B hooked me on endless variety.

Never tried a slant but probably had a slanted technique after a few bottles of Bordeaux or Stolichnaya - I've shaved with some evil razors and not needed plastic surgery - yet - Haha !

This one is quite feisty - but I've used worse LOL !

Injectors will always have a special place for me, in particular the Schick L1. Used it so much that I could just close my eyes and get on with the task. Its design is just perfection. So is the M adjustable one, though I haven't used it that much yet.

GEM blade type razors have a certain charm to 'em. Got an Ever-Ready 1914 and the aliexpress one that goes under the name titanium I believe? Cant recall its propper name. But I personally think that the injector blades are better for me on a pure economic basis. But I havent really pushed a GEM to its end of life, from what I recall.

The AC razors, both in SE and shavette format are also a blast to use. But in terms of shavettes they can get a bit nasty, due to their bite. My favorite shavette is the hair shaper blades ones. To me the personna blades last for a long while. That being said, they can also give a nasty bite, if I'm not careful.

Recently I have gotten a new appreciation for my Muhle R89 DE razor. Its the first razor I got and a part of me regret moving away from it, due to my impatience back then. Now I find that I can get a pretty decent shave with it, using a 7'o clock black blade.

I picked SE as my vote, but honestly? All of these above serve their function. Its just that the injector to me has the best ease of use + blade life. From my own experience.

I didn't try cartridge, until after I got into tradtional shaving. They were okay. But my first tool for shaving is an electric razor. And I remember through my later school years that the norm was me going to school with razor burn from hell. That being said, I've found it to be an excellent "cheat" tool to get a bit of a closer shave, after using my other razors. As my neck is a pain to shave multiple times, so I end up cheating and often use the electric to get the close shave I seek there, after a pass or two with my regular razors. But thats a secret. 🤫

Straights, all day! Well, except today actually, had a rare DE shave with a vintage Gillette. I understand the safety razor appeal, it was effortless, close and comfortable. My straight shaves are also pretty much effortless also, but it took real commitment to get there. Worth the effort for me, as I find straight razor shaving truly inspiring, due to my investment in the process, honing, stropping etc, etc. The same reason others are turned off by straights are what initially attracted me…can I do this? Turns out I can, and the others who straight razor shave have found a truly exceptional shaving experience.

I've tried all of the mentioned shave systems apart from SE. My favourite of all those are Shavettes, especially the Wecks.

6 months ago I would have immediately replied, "DE, of course." But I am really enjoying my Alpha Spirit and it's currently getting a lot more use than the DE. 6 months from now? Who knows?

Sorry. Vague answer, can’t commit.

A couple months back, I was well-positioned to answer the question. I was having my first GEM shaves with six vintage GEM razors. And going through five favourite DE razors. And going through five Type E injectors. Three of the Type Es, and the GEMs and DEs were using Personna blades: GEM, DE and injector. I had the idea that I would answer this same question.

These different types that I’ve used, they’re generally different. I’ve had some very close and smooth shaves with three of my GEMs: 2 Micromatics and a Brit ER 1912. Many of my DE razors offer a close, comfortable shave. One DE razor is above the rest: consistently very close, smooth and comfortable. The Type E injectors offer a unique level of efficiency: lightweight, maneuverable, awesome cutting power.

I’m lucky, I’ve found good shaves with all these razors. It’s funny, after nine months as a new wet shaver, going through the razors, I’ve returned to cartridges and disposables. That’s right, I’ve assembled a group of razors and just started going through them. The idea since I started was to learn to shave, because I clearly didn’t know how. My first return shave yesterday with a cartridge showed I’ve maybe learned a little.

I prefer the OC styles. Ever since I got an old type, years ago. I even really like the Pearl Flexi Adjustable OC. It was a recent Christmas present to myself.

I've been enjoying my Feather A/C DX quite a bit lately. I've finally gotten my technique down. That said, more often than not I'm reaching for my Feather AS-D2. That particular razor has taught me that a DE razor does not need to be aggressive to be efficient.

My favorite shaving tool is the straight razor. It’s the most immersive and the most fun. If I want to take my time and enjoy shaving, the straight razor is the best. The fun even extends beyond the shave with stropping and honing.

That said, I can get equally good results in less time with my Vector SE and Blackbird DE. This year I’ve taken a step back and streamlined my morning routine with the Vector SE. It’s a great shave and it gets me out the door a little bit quicker. It’s not very exciting but it’s simple and effective.

Straight razor. I like the DIY element of maintaining and sharpening them. No wastage, no throwing anything away, no training wheels. One blade could last a lifetime.
