The Shaving Timewarp

Ever since I've started DE shaving, I've discovered a strange phenomenon. One that I believe was previously unknown to man kind. It is a powerful force that takes and melds the universe around those who wet-shave.

It is the Shaving Timewarp (aka the Shaving triangle, the shavelight zone etc).

It strikes whenever you start soaking a shaving brush, and will compress time so that what to you feels like 10 minutes is actually 45.

Many days I've walked into the bathroom expecting to have a 10 minute shave, and walk out almost an hour later. My girlfriend wonders where I've gone, and what I'm doing.

Has anyone else experienced this marvel of the universe?

This happens to me most of the time. However, I usually get a great shave in 10-15 mins during the week days. On the weekends, I think I am getting a 10-15 min shave, but it's more like a 50 mins

Yes, now that I am retired I can really enjoy shaving. I usually shave after I work out or in the latter part of the morning. It takes me just a few minutes to think about whether today will be a cold water shave or warm water shave. Then the big decision is what cream and soap will be used today. Next comes the process of shaving. Before I now it, time has flown by. Of course, my wife now teases me that I take more time in the bathroom than she does. :blushing: But I tell her if you take into account how many times she goes in to check and re-apply or adjust her makeup, she has me beat by a long shot. And then I duck!

It has that effect on some folks :)w00t:).
Another side effect of the time warp is the sudden desire to start looking for a nice Fedora, vintage clothing, and other accessories.

I have a pretty tight morning schedule. I can't be off by more than a few minutes or the whole thing goes to pot.
But, It seems there is always enough time for me to shave. I can decide at the last minute to do another pass or spend 5 more minutes picking out a cologne. But if I take one extra chew of my bagel, I'm late for work.

Yes, shaving does bend time a little.

That's rediculous. I mean I enjoy a good shave like the rest of you, but come on...an hour? Rediculous.

I shave in late afternoon or evening so I can spend as much time as possible in that zone. I don't check the time, but it never feels long enough.

:001_smileA good Classic Shave is the odd combination of glorious self indulgence and transcendental meditation-it is experiencing the moment to the max that removes time from the equation. The time you take is the time needed-not distorted by past worry or future expectations. You can't have them every day but even glimpses are remarkably beneficial. There is also something about experiencing something with such an abvious tie to tradition-the clothes, leather goods, pens, whiskeys, etc. all seem to flow. In sum, for some of us it is the "paraphenomenon" of wet shaving that exceeds the simple value of a presentable shave!:001_smile

I'm glad I'm not alone in this phenomenon. 45 minutes is quite normal shave time for me, at least with a straight. The funny thing is only a tiny amount of that time is spent with a blade to my face. I'm not sure where the time goes. Maybe all those alien abduction tales are true. When you think about it, abducting someone while shaving is perfect timing. They are alone and vulnerable, and any messy bloodstains are easily explained away...
