The joy of soft water

The small community where we have lived for almost a year does not soften their water. It is extremely hard well water. Along with that it has high iron levels. They do remove most of the iron, but some still makes it through. It was difficult to say the least to get a decent lather made with this stuff. I just got our water softener going this week.:thumbup: I had enough lather this morning for 3 passes in less time than I could produce one pass before, and the quality was not even comparable. I've only been using soap and brush for a few months, and I was getting frustrated with having to hassle with distilled water if I wanted decent lather. Definitely made my week.

my waters so hard it wears a bandana but never had a problem until i tried building a lather with VDH soap. i have to load and load and load and whip and whip and whip. eventually the lather arises.

I too live in an area with hard water and have a terrible time lathering with VDH or Williams. I have an easier time with L'Occitane soap or creams, but VDH and Williams foil me. I might have to invest in a water-softening solution.

+1, i think the water in Norway is soft too. Never any problem lathering anything. What is the hardest soap to lather?
I'm not sure which soap is the hardest to lather, but I use VDH since it and Williams are all that is readily available here. I am trying to show some restraint before placing orders with our suppliers here for new things to try. My list is far longer than my billfold is thick. Hopefully, Santa will be kind this year.
