SUBLV's Straight Shaving Log.

So about 10 minutes ago I completed my 1st straight shave taking on 3 days of thick stubble and... Nothing horrific happened at all I did WTG and XTG with no nicks no cuts and no weepers, less blood loss than with a DE actually. There was quite a lot of pulling though which I blame either on my stropping which is poor obviously or my angles which can't be perfect either. On a much more positive note I did get BBS on my cheeks which has pleased me immensely , the neck will be more of a challenge however all in good time. I am now eagerly awaiting the incoming of my W&B which will add a chopper to the rotation.

Good work!

How many laps on the strop? Do you have a leather strop or a linen/leather combo strop?

Congrats! Sounds like things are improving. I found the neck was all about getting the right angles and the grip. I had to change it in certain spots to keep the scales out of the way.

Ok had shave 2 and again not so bad still no blood and still able to smooth the easy bits, but there was a pretty large amount of pulling my only concern is that I may have rolled the edge whilst stropping which I presume would lead to pulling like I felt. Is there any way to check?

My first concern would be the number of laps on the strop but we discussed this yesterday :)001_smile)

Try to do a couple more laps, specially on leather and try again, if it stills pull and cause discomfort, send it to a honer.

Grant, I'm still new to straights so don't claim any expertise. Did you get your straight "shave ready"? If you did, did you try it BEFORE you stropped? This would give you a benchmark for your edge so you'd know if it was your stropping that was the problem.
