I bought this one a few weeks ago. Just got around to honing it today. It has the biggest scales I've ever seen. 6/8 Muschel Double Hollow. They clearly aren't factory. Someone had used this razor a lot, but the honing is very even. And the mirror polish was well taken care of. But at some point they decided to put these crazy scales on here. It looks like dyed stabilized wood to me with a different dyed stabilized wood wedge. But that's just a guess. This razor weighs 64 grams. For comparison my 13/16 Gold Dollar 208 with a 6.2 mm spine only weighs 59 grams. I haven't tried shaving with it yet. Tomorrow will be the maiden voyage. It will be interesting seeing how such a handle heavy beast steers.

These days I only buy very selected razors for very reasonable prices. This means that every time I win an auction it comes as a positive surprise. Last week I got a very positive surprise. Puma 39 5/8 in flawless condition.

Went to the used SR lot up in the north end of town. Dropped a jackson on a Kinfolks Blue Steel Special. It had the most plausible edge of anything parked there. This morning I have been reading @Chan Eil Whiskers posts about his KBSSes, hoping I didn’t buy trouble. Work to do in any case.

Winter is coming, maybe I’ll catch up on honing.

Nice find I think.

Not sure I'll ever catch up on honing but I've not given up.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Won my second of these vintage NOS Dorko razors today. Both of these eBay auction wins have been at the low end of what they tend to go for (bargains relatively speaking). Today's was lower priced than the first I won.

I'm pleased and a bit surprised to have won this one.

Happy shaves,

Jim

After collecting mainly Japanese razors I am staring to diversify and looking into some old steel.

:001_wub: :001_wub: :001_wub: That’s why I watch this thread. Three beautiful razors, and as diverse a group as I can imagine.

The first is a custom-restored Birko Best Solingen 6/8 with 2.5" blade, also seen here:

The second is a very heavily used Fili #14 at 3.25" long. It was originally an 8/8, but is now a 5/8. The next pic is a length comparison to a full size Weck shavette with 2.25" blade.

Boker Inox Stainless Steel
Factory edge shaved arm hair pretty good, I might just shave with it and see how it goes.

Ask me about shaving naked!
Newly acquired Le Grelot with a re-scale by Alfredo, aka Doc226. The razor is extremely thin and makes a Filly look chunky. The B&W scale mix is something Koraat has done, and the 2-tone wedge is an experiment. I’m looking forward to putting an edge on it and shaving!

I really like that first one. Everything about it is gorgeous and meticulously done well.

I quite enjoy it as well. Light, nimble, and not quite surgically sharp (but I did twitch and put a fine cut in the edge of my strop, almost effortlessly). A very fine razor. My barber actually used it, and it felt like it wasn't shaving at all, smooth but dull ... but it was actually shaving perfectly. o_O

Another cleanup by Alfredo, a 6/8 Rodgers ivory barbers notch. I got two ivory scaled razors for $65 and this was one. It was mostly just dirty with a little very light surface oxidation, should be sweet!
