Springfield P9 - back from the dead

My one and only "wonder nine" is this P9 that sadly sat in an ammo can for 12 years. The problem was I had paid a "gunsmith" to install Novak sights on it and he ruined the original slide.
After butchering my gun he went out of business and moved out of state.

With all the recent events in the news, I decided to get all of my guns in working order and the P9 was first. Since it is a Tanfoglio built pistol (finished by Springfield) I found the EAA Witness slide should fit. After a lot of time fitting the slide to the frame, recontoring the thumb safety, replacing all the springs with new Wolff springs, and experimenting with the different duplicate parts (firing pins, extractors) I can say this P9 is back in business.

365 rounds went downrange today without a hiccup or a malfunction. I love how this gun ejects its brass into the same spot. I'm pretty handy with the 1911 and SA Ruger revolvers. This was my first time fixing a European wonder 9. (roll pins are a pain in the ***)

I've got a Springfield 1911 that is going to get back into shooting shape next :thumbup1:

Thanks guys!

It's not a roll around in the mud gun like a Glock or an XD but it's prettier and that CZ style grip is so comfortable.

Amen. If you are in the US, Lowe's sells a set of Bostitch brand steel pin punches that has a 1/16 punch in it that seems to be well made. I just used mine a few minutes ago to back out a broken firing pin on an old Astra Cub and I had to really wail on that thing with a hammer. No deformation and the slide is still in good shape. Roll pins are the work of the devil.

I bought a big set of punches from Brownells 15-17 years ago that has been great. Good tools are always a worthwhile purchase. I suppose you could argue that the ends of a roll pin can be peened and it won't fall out but I still prefer a solid pin.

Nice work!

Thanks!
