Return of the Shallow Angle Shave
Preshave Preparation: Hot shower with a good face wash using Mitchell’s Wool Fat Bath Soap. Preshave: Proraso White Preshave and The Fat proto lather. Bowl/Scuttle: Savanah Shave Scuttle Brush: RazoRock 400 aluminum handle Plissoft knot. I like big brush and I cannot lie. Razor: Rockwell 6S plate #4 Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless shave 23 Soap: The Fat Aftershave Treatment: warm water rinse followed by a cool water rinse and an application of Bosomo Alum block. After a minute, face wash with the leftover Mitchell’s, then a cold water rinse. Wet my entire head and applied Hyaluronic Acid followed by First Aid moisturizer. EDT: Kouros Results: Nice smooth 2 pass shave resulting from using a shallow angle on the blade. No nicks cuts or weepers. There wasn’t even a hint of sting from the alum. This was on four days growth. I cut my chin on the last shave and waited for it to heal.
This soap is super weird. I don't get strawberries from it; instead it smells like a soft suede shoe. Not even joking. It is a dead ringer for the smell of a shoe store I used to go to when I was younger. So odd. Not offensive, but not something I'd use regularly. But the formula was good of course, and I wish I could say the OneBlade cruised through it, but man, this blade is just... not great, as many know. With a great blade this could be a tremendous shaver. I like a lot of things about it: how easy it is to get a quick, good quality shave with, the way the head sits in the face, the feel in hand. But that first pass is scrape-y as hell. Funny thing is, by the end of the shave my face felt absolutely great, and the results are very smooth. So that I can't complain about.
Razor: Friedr Herder, 15/16 full hollow
Brush: Grizzly Bay "Bumble" 26mm Manchurian Badger
Soap: PAA Ck6 Ray Rum
Aftershave: PAA Ray Rum Star Jelly
3 pass dfs+ to break in this new razor from Griffith shaving. Fantastic shave, lovely full hollow.
The soap is a recent acquisition from PAA, somewhere between a classic scent and a gourmand. I'm surprised (pleasantly!) how much vanilla changes the scent profile to my nose. Absolutely fantastic shave tonight.
Charcoal Goods level 2 on maze 1 handle, Feather, Barrister and Mann Ferox, old, rather large Rooney style 3 with Shavemac D01 knot, Penhaligon’s Hammam Bouquet balm, Montale Black Oud.
