Shave Cloth Vs Brush In Method Shaving

Through reading threads in the method shaving forum, people have varied opinions on the cloth and the brush in method shaving. I have the cloth but I want the absolute best result I can get from the shave. In your experience which gives the superior shave? Why do you prefer it? Which produces the better mix? Thanks in advance. :thumbup1:

I have vulfix 41 which according to a review here will be good for the method mix. I'll give it a try this week and post my results.

although I just did a cold water shave with some modified VDH-dlx and my shea moisture brush (via face lathering ) and got a wonderful result too.

what's your process?

Shower and wash face, body & hair with Lepi de provence wild rose bar (Same make as the scented rounds, VERY good product) Get out of shower, gently wash face with round x2, handlather round, add to face, add cutting balm and generous amount of paste. Then go to work with the mix on the cloth. Got an amazing shave.

From what I've read the cloth is much simpler in the sense you can cancel out the amount of steps in making the mix, but I wanna know if there is any "difference" between the two mixes after theyve been created. :confused1 Good to hear you got a good shave with cold water! Been wanting to try that! Maybe when the weather heats up haha :wink2:

I've tried the shave cloth a few times, but i'm nervous about trying it with my brush. Mostly, I'm worried that somehow the products might mess up the brush. Is that a possibility?

Good suggestion and good ideas too. Lately I have been face lathering with a round of Hesperides, purchased from Enchante' long, long before I became skilled in how to use it. Funny thing about DE Wet Shaving is that I believe I'm learning new things with each shave! Your question regarding the difference of the mix created by more conventional means of a brush or the faster method using the cloth seems to be a matter of how the mix is made up, exactly. The cloth method allows for much, much more Cutting Balm to be applied drectly to the mix while the brush method forces one to use 'face loading' of the CB. So, I imagine you'll have a sense of a 'more robust' smoothness shaving with the cloth.

Remember, don't sweat this stuff. Just have some fun with it and enjoy your face time! :001_cool:

I put the Cutting Balm on my face with lather from the round as a "primer". I let it sit while prepping the mix in my brush and I never let the CB get on my brush. I use the mix in my hand (paste/soap/activator) on may face for the first pass, rinse, then use the brush on the next passes. I tried the cloth but it was a little too harsh for me even after about a month. I love my Edwin Jagger brush!

i used the cloth again last night. I didn't soak the soap before I primed the cloth. I did soak the cloth and is isn't really soft yet, but it doesn't seem to irritate my hands when making the mix. i got plenty of primer lather, though.

Did you just get the cloth? It'll definitely take a bit of breaking in, I think mine needed about a week of daily use before it felt like I expected it to.

A word of advice, leave the cloth to soak overnight in warm water, then it should be broken in completely. It was very rough until a few days of use.
