Scents of creams

So, you can get Tabac in a tube but it's said not to be anywhere near as good as the soap.

Musgo is great, but smells ... grassy.

SCS has a tub of cream in any scent, but it's not like gooey cream, it's a semi-solid fluff.

Mama Bear makes soaps, not creams.

Penhaligon has things like Opus 1870... for $40 for a 150mL tube.

Real Shaving Co. has a $6 150mL tube of medicine-smelling cream too.

...

Meanwhile, Mama Bear has many awesomely scented soaps. Everything from Aged Spice and Ralph Lauren colognes to Amber and Sandalwood, even Cannabis.

SCS has an amazing bay rum scent, in a soap or a hard "cream." Great pipe tobacco scent too. Sue carries a huge variety.

Ogallala Bay Rum soaps smell nice, and come in soap.

I find Col. Conk's soaps hard to use, but their bay rum scent is awesome. The Amber Col. Conk's is great too.

It seems there's almost nothing interesting in a tube....

What. Emmett. Said.

T&H 1805, Grafton, WIL, Trafalgar, Ultimate Comfort, Almond, Rose, Lavender, etc.

Trumper's Coconut, Limes, Violet, GFT, etc.

What was the problem again?

I'm just seeing very little exciting in cream. There's plenty of lemon/lime/rose/lavender, and a few signature scents out there. In the same way, it seems there's plenty of Bay Rum soaps, but not really any Lemon/Lime/Citrus soaps (there's one or two).

But then you notice, Trumpers has Almond, Coconut, Lime, Sandalwood, Rose, Violet... T&H has 1805 and Traflagar, and then back to Lime and Almond and Rose. Speick ... only has one scent doesn't it? Palmolive has lemon/lime. Tabac shave cream is unimpressive, and comes in one scent.

Meanwhile Col Conk has Amber, Bay Rum, Almond, Lime... pretty weak. Ogallala has managed to just fuzz around with Bay Rum. Then you see Mama Bear and Saint Charle's Shave, which both have more flavors of shave soaps than colognes; hell, sometimes I think about asking the vendors to run off some of their soap-only fragrances as colognes.

TOBS seems to have 4 or 5 interesting scents for their creams...

It seems like you can get a little variety in creams; but if you want to really get the interesting stuff, you have to start looking at shave soaps coming from small-shop perfumers.

It's certainly true that soaps offer a much wider variety of scents. No question about that. Just take a look at Mama Bear's website! And Sue at Saint Charles Shave might even be willing to make a new scent, if you requested it.

So I agree that soaps have a wider variety. I disagree, though, that there are no good scents available in a cream, if that's what you're trying to say.

Have you tried Tabac cream, or not? I got the impression by your first post that you hadn't. It lathers just fine, and doesn't dry me out the way the soap does. It smells like butt, though. IMO, its performance is not what makes it undesireable.

Irisch Moos is another cream that comes in a tube. Its scent is dirtier and earthier than the soap.

I don't care about variety of scents in my lineup so much as I care about really liking every one. Creams come in a smaller variety of scents, and you reduce that number considerably when you further restrict it to creams in tubes. However, there are some killer scented creams and you'd be insane to dismiss creams as a whole b/c they don't come in 150 scents.

And don't diss the Speick. :hand:

Agreed. One original post, plus a clarifying post from the OP, and I still don't get the point of this thread. I know this isn't a college composition course, but having a thesis prior to your supporting facts usually helps to direct the reader's attention along the lines of what you're trying to say. Random, rambling facts without an overarching directive come off as just that: random and rambling.

Yes, but it was TOTALLY worth my while to read because of this one sentence lost in the sea of sentences:

Have you tried Tabac cream, or not? ... It smells like butt, though. ...

Nearly choked on my darn lunch.

Interesting idea, however...
