Safety razor

Are there any safety that don't cut the hair down really close.

Basically is there anything that can leave a stubble ish left over? ( I dont mean designer typ stubble, I want shorter than that! )

Reason I ask is I suffer from ingrown hairs, there isn't anything wrong with my technique etc.

ATM I use a Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic. Is there anything that won't cut as close as if I shave a tad further away then in theory my ingrown hairs should go down.

Anthonys ingrown treatment has helped quite a bit though!

I do use pre shave oil aswell !

there's a few more factors you didn't include in your question:

-how's your prep/lather?
a bad lather doesn't properly hydrate the hairs, making them harder to cut, and causing the blade to pull them

-what kind of blades are you using?
as with the lather, the sharpness (or lack thereof) of a blade can cause pulling rather than cutting of the hairs

look into SE razors.

+1 on Dave's advice if you are looking for "smooth" without stubble or irritation.

If you purposely want a "little" stubble (not the two-day growth that some 30-somethings think is "cool") I'd go with a Super Speed or a G-type Schick Injector and a very light touch for one pass only . . . you will be "clean" with a perceptible ATG stubble.

I was going to reply in jest - "A Goodfella Razor"

But then I realized you were serious.
So let me say this..

A Goodfella Razor with a blade in it.

Have you tried just doing a single With The Grain pass with a mild razor like a Goodfella or a Gillette Tech?

I might suggest 50's Super Speed, a Tech or even an adjustable.

An adjustable be a Slim, FatBoy or A Super Adjustable dialed down to 1 might be just what you are looking for. Then you could dial it closer if you fine that ingrowns are no longer an issue.

You may also post your prep in detail. With several thousand years of shaving experience here on B&B....I'm sure someone might offer some piece of advice...LOL

Best wishes and don't give up. I'm sure the right combo is just waiting to be found.

I think there is a post by Joel stickied where he says the Mekur slant is very agressive. I have heard good things of Mekur Progress

Also I think Parker 96R is aggressive, but in a bad way :D I don't recommend it,it's just my first razor.

Another vote for the Goodfella. It's a mild razor and might help. I do enjoy the one I have, but I usually stick with the DE89L. I don't get ingrowns, though.

Either a Gillette or even a Lord Tech or a Schick injector can probably get you that bit of stubble, if that is what you want:001_smile

The BumpFighter made by Personna will get you exactly what you want. It features a one bladed cartridge, that has a guard over the blade, which prevents a super close shave from occurring (thus reducing irritation, and the potential for ingrown hairs).

If you always suffer from ingrowns and absolutely NEED to have a short stubble, then the pop-up trimmer of an electric razor would be your best bet.
