This arrived today…
Can’t turn down a Made in England model.
Wasn’t sure what it was exactly when I bought it. I think it’s an Aristocrat Jr?
IMG_6853.jpeg

Was completely seized up but is now back to useable and is in pretty decent condition after a service and polish… it’s had a life but seems straight enough.
I shall give it a whirl in the morning. Any blade recommendations for this one?

Yep, it's a 1949 model Aristocrat Junior (they were usually sold in 48, 49, 51, 53 and Canadian Rocket sets. So probably a mismatch case?)
They're somewhat aggressive with more blade exposure compared to English Rockets, Techs and News ...But not too much, they're exceptional when dialed in. One of the best. Can't go wrong with a smooth Lord Super Stainless blade.

Hi, I received this entire shaving kit today. The safety razor appears to be an original part, but the leather case does not have the Gillette logo. I don't know how these sets were produced and how the companies' cooperation with Gillette worked. The Razor is made in Britain but I haven't had time to look up the year of manufacture yet. Local advertising is full of shaving sets with cheap razors, almost worthless, and the discovery of one with a Gillette razor was a big surprise.

As Commander Spock would say, "Most interesting..." This puppy is heavy at 144g. Trying to remember why I ordered it... Oh yea, it was this product was advertised to sharpen blades without the need to hone, strop, or grind in a very short amount of time by using the force of the magnets to realign the cutting edge of the blade. Interestingly, the included booklet says to only shave up down and down up, not side to side. Of course I'll have to try and find out why they say that...

it has to do with the earths magnetic poles, if you go side to side you are going against the poles eg east to west thus you must only go north south a k a up and down :w00t:

the amazing aside from a few little pieces of stubborn buildup in the nooks result. Actually can’t believe the razor was this good, it looks like someone staged the buildup for the result.

I’ve been on the fence about getting a Timeless. In general, I’m not a fan of polished stainless steel razors and I have enough matte/satin stainless razors. Once I got my Athena, it became easier… can’t have just ONE bronze razor, right?

Timeless TRBR38, delivered yesterday.

Please post your thoughts and experiences with both the Timeless Bronze and Athena. I came at this situation from the other way around. I bought both the Timeless Bronze .38SB and .78OC. I already had a Timeless .68SB (at one point I had a stainless .95OC baseplate too, but too much for me).

I love, love, LOVE my Timeless razors. But, for me, the Lambda Athena is next level... Timeless Bronze puts me on a cloud. The Lambda Athena gives me wings and a harp. Maybe I suffering from puppy love/infatuation. Hence I'm curious about your experience.

Happy shaves!!!

Never tried an open comb before so I ordered a couple Razorock heads. Their Old Type and the GC 68OC. Since I was there I picked up the 76P as well.

I will certainly update once I’ve used the Timeless. There are a couple ahead of it in rotation, so, it will be a little while.

The Athena, though… what can I say? It gives me a next-level shave and it literally sings with a Lab Blue blade. I get the most comfortable DFS shave of any razor I have yet used. I occasionally use alum just to check, and there is no feedback at all. It is nearly magical.

On the negative side, I’m not thrilled with the handle; I’ve nearly dropped it a time or two. Also, the maintenance requirement is a bit much. I disassemble and wash/dry after each shave, then reassemble. After three shaves, I started getting discoloration on the center of the baseplate. I will use Simichrome on it once its turn is done, but, having a razor start to patina so quickly will likely keep it out of my primary rotation. I wonder about using isopropyl alcohol to dissipate water? Just seems excessive to spend 30 minutes cleaning after every shave.

I do love the razor, though. I wish I was one of those chaps who like patina.

Great information on the maintenance of the Athena. I'm willing to do it... for the moment. But at the end of the day I/me/chef455 am willing to take the loss on a "perfect" luster as long as it continues to shave remarkably. Which, thus far, it has.

It is one of the unique qualities of bronze/brass razors. What are you going to do? Polish or patina? I'm fortunate to have 2 bronze Timeless razors. I'll let one develop a patina, I'll keep the other shiny. For the time being I'll put in the "work" to keep the Athena pristine. But at the end of the day if I let the Lambda go "dull" I doubt it will impact the quality of the shave.
