What's new

Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

I shaved a fortune
When excitement turns to disappointment. Alpha Claymore Evolution with a bent cap. The blade flexes up and down in the middle. And, as is apparently the new normal, neither Alpha nor The Razor Store will reply to an email about returning for replacement. I have also contacted The Razor Store here and on social media. Now I want a refund instead of a replacement. I’d prefer spending my money elsewhere. How companies with absolute garbage customer support stay in business boggles my mind.

and 😲. That's so sad to read. As I've mentioned, I've had quite a few of them pass through my hands and I still kept one that I use for every shave around my nose.....I bought all mine some time back, all from The Executive Shaving Company in Scotland.

They are now Alpha Shave Works. They never responded to my emails. The Razor Store finally did, after my posts here about not getting responses.

I'm going to put the refund, plus my Yates refund, toward the Le Maurice. I'm still a bit ticked off about Yates, but, as good as the Blackbird Titanium shaves, I don't need a Titanium 921.

Vintage experts that know what they are looking at… did the chrome on the ends of my razor fail, or am I just missing end covers.

If I am missing end covers, is there a best place to order replacements from?

The metal looks too unfinished to be failed chrome. It looks like bare metal.
You ARE missing end caps
these were affixed on by 'soldering' or in nth american vernacular 'soddahring' of a type that is unknown to me? it maybe silver soddah? brass brazing? i doubt is lead soddah? hence the ''ugly'' look you have to the metal with remnants of solder/soddah

best place for replacements? Dr Googel [i know of one supplier that will remain unnamed]

the replacements will need solder afixing, do you feel up to that task?

Picked up a NOS Gillette Tech!
I believe this is a 1947 Gold Tech but would appreciate if someone who knows more about these than I do could verify. Thanks!

This safety razor came to me sometime at the beginning of the year. I forgot to put a photo here. For comparison, I look in disbelief at the amazing pieces that Dyllern managed to get. They all look like they were just made in a factory.

Wow, that’s surprising Bill. I hope your enjoying the Blackbird experience with Lite plate!! I just received today Copper Le Maurice in 1.6. It join my Copper 1.2 & 1.4 AD Le Maurice stable. Amazing razor and I highly recommend it, get in Ti or Cu Bill. Happy Shaving!

I‘m posting this for a coworker. He decided to try a DE razor to avoid getting ingrown whiskers.

He saw this ”Mid ‘40’s“ Aristocrat on the ’Bay and asked me about it because I had shown him one I found (a’50) in a local shop earlier that week.

He got it, it’s a 1950, and appears to be unused. Other than a scuff in the lacquer on one of the doors it’s perfect. It’s so nice he’s not sure he wants to use it.

What a fantastic find for a first DE razor.

Somebody has to keep the party going right? 🥳

I have a few more razors that will be shown the next couple of days, but then I'm done this time. That being said I have some great stuff waiting for me in US and UK 😁
my wife would kill me.

To add to the thread though I got a good deal on this

Merkur 'Progress' #570/#572

  • Some vintage Merkur 'Progress'-razors 👌🏼
  • The specimen in the brown case should be from before 1961 and one of the earlier models with red painting and a different knob/logo underneath.
  • The two NOS specimens are from a later production. Maybe late 60' early 70'. Pay attention to the "W.Germany" on the head.
  • I have a few extra NOS specimens(plastic case model) should anyone be interested.
