Razor/brush stand concept - Thoughts?

Hey all,

I wanted to get some feedback on a razor/brush stand idea I have been working on - keep in mind this is in the early stages - haven't decided on specifics like materials and some other actual shaping details, but as a concept I think it's ready for some comments.

I came up with this because I currently often rotate my DEs (like I know many others do) and I wanted a way to store/display a select number of them nicely right on the bathroom counter.

The basics of the mockup image below:

  • Room to store up to five razors at a time, accommodating most types of DEs both long and short handled
  • room to store two brushes - one on each side
  • built-in blade bank that can be periodically emptied via a bottom or back slide out door
  • A place to **safely** store blades while in use

The blade storage is an idea I had for keeping track of blade use. Each of the blade storage banks is numbered - 1 to 5. As you use a blade, you move it forward a post and you can keep track of the amount of use each blade has. Most people don't use a blade beyond 5 uses, so this may be enough to accommodate the masses.

What do you guys think? I have a friend in product manufacturing that I've discussed taking this to prototype phase with. Does the concept appeal to you guys?

Thanks! See below for the CAD concept I mashed out

I love it! I would order one if it was reasonably priced. I look at the brush holders and they look a little big... then I wonder if there's a way to make them adjustable? I have a 30mm brush that doesn't fit in either of my stands.

That is awesome! I really like it.

Realistically, I don't know if it would work on a bathroom counter. It looks like it has a big footprint. However, I would use it elsewhere to hold my rotation for the week.

Personally, I would recommend removing the five blade holders and the blade bank slot. Also, how about making more than one brush holder on each side so that it would hold four brushes total? Just my thoughts.

real classy work...blades may be better off enclosed ,away from the air.

+1.

That is very cool! I would buy it as well. For me, I think it would be absolutely perfect if the razor blades were covered but that is just for child proofing. Maybe something in the way of a removable cover so people who are not worried about others getting cut by the blades can take it off. Nice work!

Great idea. Not too sure about the exposed blade(s) though, that could lead to a lawsuit if someone is careless. You could even make one that hold just one razor/brush for the less fortunate or those that just use a Mach III or something like that. And yes, I'd buy one of those. Good thinking.

Nice idea, although I also think the exposed blade holders might not be a good move. Getting rid of them would also reduce its footprint, which would be a good thing imo. Keep the cost reasonable and I'd probably buy one.

I definitely like the looks of this as well. Like the others have said the blade storage wouldn't be very useful to me but other than that I would definitely purchase if was a reasonable price.

Looking at your design again. Nice. A possible suggestion would be to make that front area where you have blade posts into a sort of tray so users could put a shave stick, tube of shave cream, packs of blades and styptic etc.....:thumbup1:

Looks great, and nice job on the rendering. I might have to get into this at lunch time at work. Did you 3D scan the razor, wow that is some detail!

Thanks guys - this is all great feedback!

Thanks - actually, the razor itself was a model done by someone else - he was kind enough to share his CAD with me. I believe he did it for a school project! :)

As others have said the footprint is too big for a bathroom. It looks great but my suggestions would be:
-Remove the blade holders
-Lower the amount of DE's down to three

This should make it cheaper, and easier to explain to the significant other in your life.

Really nice design. I'm an advocate of all of it except that the blades would be difficult to grab hold of when you want to pull one up. Could lead to a nasty nick.

I personally store my blade in the razor even though I wipe the blade after each use. I also like different blades in different razors. If I designed it for myself I would have something like a dice holder for each razor to use as a counter. Having a little click through counter like on a combo lock would be cost prohibitive.

I really like the concept. It looks modern and manly.

I personally don't take blades out of my razor in between shaves so the blade storage would not help me.
For tracking blade usage, I'd get a one-digit odometer (like in your car) for each razor that goes op to 9.

good Luck!

Really nice concept. Great image too. I'd buy it if it were priced reasonable. Your biggest obsticle is going to be the amount of counter space it takes up. You could ditch the blade holder and maybe steepen the razor angle to take up less space. You do need a shave counter for each razor. Also I like the 5 razor version but...would a three razor design be appealing to people with less space? Good luck with this. Really nice and nothing like it out there.
