Expensive, inefficient DIY stand...

A radio comedy team called Bob and Ray did a recurring spot with Fred Falvy, the Do-It-Yourselfer.
His home projects were always absurd, time consuming and expensive.

In the spirit of that, I made a razor stand.

It started with that thing as a cheap impulse buy from Yaqi on Aliexpress. When I got it, I realized it would tip too easily because of its narrow base. And the base was either warped or poorly machined. It wobbled. So I began formulating ideas to make it stable.

Then I saw this scrap of oak at an antique store, and everything clicked.

I have three Yaqi razors, and researched that they have 5mm holes for stands in the handle. Luckily, these mated perfectly to 5mm shelf pins from Lowes. That silver peg is a 5/16 x 2" clevis pin, which approximates the opening of the Blackland Osprey handle. I would've preferred something 11/32", but good luck finding anything in that diameter.

And there it is. Left room in the front for the few razors I own that have stands.

There in the back on the right side you can see the gap caused by the warped stand. A screw could not pull it flat, but at least the front is tight.

I shaved a fortune
If you have a clamp, you could clamp it, then insert the screw.... It might hold.

The problem would be expense.... I used to be in the trade so I have a lot of high quality clamps.... but I did see a couple sets that are moderately priced.

These: https://www.amazon.com/Jorgensen-300lbs-Limited-Woodworking-Metalworking/dp/B08ZCVYR6F/?th=1

Or these: https://www.amazon.com/Signature-Co-Medium-Duty-Quick-Release-Woodworking/dp/B0CYYL2DDL/1?th=1

The whole idea of DIY is to keep the cost down.. so I hesitated to post this...

The more I looked at it, the more I think it was just machined out of true. I used drywall screws on this, with plenty of torque. That gap isn't coming down, but that will be back against the wall anyway.
