Palmolive leaves gunk!?

Loving the palmolive stick, but every time I have used it I get thick buildup of soap and whiskers under my blade after a few strokes. It is so thick it is very difficult to rinse out. Had to take the razor apart mid shave to get it out yesterday. Even get some soap on the underside of the razor that is very tough to rinse off.

Anyone else get this? Is my lather too thick?

No other soaps/creams do this for me and the last time I went a few extra dips in the water with my brush and had a very shiny/slick lather.

I love this stuff, but the buildup is a pain and could be a deal breaker.

Yep, too thick. you need to add more water to your lather. I usually sip the tips of the brush in water 3-4 times while lathering.

I dipped the brush probably 7 to 8 times. Maybe I got too much soap on my face. Will try less soap and see what happens.

I use col conk in a homemade stick and never had this happen.

With some of the softer sticks (arko, palmolive) if you apply a lot of product you can get this on your first pass. The only ways around it are to:

1) Live with it
2) Try to build up your lather longer and possibly using a bit more water to make sure all of the soap is broken down
3) use less product

I like options 1 or 2.

That's exactly how I like my Palmolive lather! Gives me a great shave when it's tacky like that. It is a huge pain to rinse off though! Like everyone else said, put more water on the brush and go slow with the lathering process to see how it changes from sticky to fluffy.

Yep, I notice this with shave sticks too. The soap builds so much lather so quickly that all the soap that get's pasted on yer face when you start doesn't get worked into the lather. Small price to pay for such a great performing soap.
