Opinion on Mama Bear Soaps

I just bought a couple of pucks of the Aged Spice soap from Mama Bears. I heard this is as close to the vintage Old Spice soap as you can get without actually forking over the dollars for the original. Has anyone tried it and what was your likes/dislikes? It is a glycerin based soap. Thanks.

Sadly I'm one of the few that has a bad reaction to the MB soaps.

I've been scared to order it for just that reason. She does sell sample sizes though so that would take some of the disappointment out of it if I were to be unable to use them.

I'm a big fan of Sue's soaps, but many folks seem to have problems with irritation from the EO/FOs.
A sampler pack is the way to go if you haven't tried them before. I have a video in my Wiki page (at the bottom) on various ways to generate lather with the samples/slivers.

I love the smell and slickness also, I invested in the small puck. Does very well but I can only do two passes with it, third one lights me up. I have about 5 of her soaps.

I've tried a few samples. I found it to provide good lather but the scents on every one was just too much, and every one set my face on fire. After trying the 3rd sample I quit. I just wasn't enjoying any of the experience.

Definitely get a few samples before committing to a whole puck. This soap seems to irritate more folks than other soaps.

That is quite interesting. Maybe some cayenne pepper is mixed in the formulation! I'll have to report back on this thread once I've tried it.

I think it has to do with the rather high concentrations of EO/FO she uses. Her soaps are POWERFULLY scented. Different people have different thresholds for what concentration of EO/FO will be irritating, but I think a lot of her soaps cross the people who might be at a lower threshold for that kind of irritation, hence why you get more complaints about her soaps than others.

I've used about a dozen of her soaps without any issues at all. It is all individual, of course. They lather beautifully, and perform as well or better than many soaps that are highly touted here. For a great masculine scent, I highly recommend Dragon's Blood. Get a sample, or a puck, it's all kinds of manly!

+1

And I didn't think the performance was more than mid-range.

I find scent and performance of Queen Charlotte Soap and Nanny's Silly Soaps a lot better - YMMV

I was recently gifted a 3 soap box from Mama Bears, and I've only dried one of them so far, Ye Olde Barbershoppe...and I think its excellent! It does feel a touch warm on my skin after three passes, but I don't mind because the scent and lather-ability are great! I think the only soap I love more is Tabac. YMMV, of course.

Ok thanks. Has anyone experienced the same with any other soaps out there, or just MB's?
Happens on a bunch of soaps to different folks, but Green Irish Tweed scents in general seem to cause reactions on a bunch of folks. Other manufactures also had ingredients causing irritation/reactions but Mama Bears, in general, seems to have more reporting of problems. I have no issue, but I know that many do.

I get red, blotchy skin from anything heavily scented. D.R. Harris creams were not good to my face, as much as I liked the smell of the Windsor. QCS key lime made my skin burn - I sold it off after only two uses. I haven't tried Mama Bear soaps, but from the reports here, I'm sure her scented soaps wouldn't work for me either.

Essential Oils / Fragrance Oils. Both can cause irritation to folks like me with extra sensitive skin.

Really depends on what you are sensitive to though. I have sensitive skin and the EO/FO don't bother me but anything with menthol, lanolin or even some tallow soaps irritate my skin.

Yep, that's right. There are all kinds of different sensitivities. Like you, I'm not great with anything menthol. However, I'm fine with lanolin and tallow. Mike's soaps work very well for me. So I just stick to unscented stuff, and I'm usually safe.
