Clean - Absolute game-changer

Like many of you, my skin is sensitive. I have to take a break from shaving to let my skin calm down. Otherwise it gets angry, red, hurting, and shaving is not fun at all. This i am sure is true for many of us.

On another thread, where I was pondering try and get another new cream, to fix this issue that I've had for 20 years, I saw a recommendation that stood out to me. A gentleman was recommending strongly that I try using Noxeema cleanser, not the shave cream, in a thread about noxzema products.

Now I normally do not go and impulse buy a product based on the recommendation of one member. But I figured it's a small cost, I need a new facial cleanser for the shower anyway, and I have never tried any Noxeema products.

And I have gotta say, this is something special. It provides good-not-great lubrication, wonderful protection, and it does not cause the ouchy, hot feeling of the skin that I normally get. I have now shaved three days in a row with the uber-aggressive Razorock Super Slant L3++, and my skin feels fine.

Earlier I was doing the exact same shave with Speick, and getting the same angry red feeling.

This stuff is an absolute game-changer for me. A massive tub cost less than a sandwich. And it works great as a facial cleanser as well.

I did use my preshave - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements The Cube - but I use that before every shave regardless so it's not making the difference.

One caveat to using Noxzema Classic Clean -- I wouldn't use it in a mechanical type of a razor. The best would be a razor that can be easily broken down and wiped clean. I would avoid adjustables and twist to open types. Noxzema leaves a residue which can be off-putting to some shavers. Personally, I find the comfort is gives far outweighs wiping a razor down when it's time to clean.

So, I'll break forum decorum and bump my own thread. I have been wetshaving for nearly 20 years, and this Noxzema classic clean is revolutionary.

Can I get any volunteers willing to spend the $4 it takes to purchase one, and try it out?

At the very least, if you don't like it, you have a fantastic facial soap - best I have tried.

I tried with the Noxzema Classic Clean a few years ago, but the underlying soya oil scent was grossing out my Wifey. Might try with the Equate homage soon.

@CzechCzar , have you tried using hot water applying a layer of something like Trumpers’ Skin Food? After using every soap, cream, and type of brush, that’s where @Xonic landed with success.

I tried cold water and glycerin as I don’t think my whiskers are as coarse as his or yours (and I have glycerin, but not GFT Skin Food) and it was a much closer shave than normal (though the aftershave sting suggested warmer water and more glycerin than I used would’ve been smarter).

I have not. Are you talking about using Trumper's skin food as a preshave, and then Noxzema as a shave cream?

I have used Skin Food as a post shave ages ago, and it was good. Been a long while however.

Decades ago I used Noxzema Classic Cream as a pre shave and it worked great. Over the years I got away from it. 3 or 4 years ago I decided to give it a try and purchased the same Noxzema cream in the OP. It just wasn't the same old Noxzema I remembered. In fact it didn't seem even close. After some investigating I found that over the years Noxzema dropped menthol and camphor from the original formula. The original Noxzema included eucalyptus, menthol, and camphor. Those 3 ingredients really made Noxzema pop as a preshave (for me). Digging further into this I found a thread on B&B discussing this same topic. It turns out that Wal-Marts generic brand Equate sells a copy of the original Noxzema. Its called Equate Skin Care Cream with Eucalyptus, and the ingredients include camphor and menthol. I gave it a try and its almost exactly the same as the orginal Noxzema and for me a much better preshave than the current formulation of Noxzema. Plus a little bonus...at Wal Mart the Equate tub is half the price of Noxzema. I highly suggest giving it a go!

I picked up a new jar a few days ago identical to the one pictured in Post #9 above. It has both Camphor and Menthol in the ingredients list. Eucalyptus is also listed, maybe there's different versions available. Works great in any case.

Noxzema was a familiar smell in my childhood... My mother slathered her face in it every night.... I couldn't handle the smell then.... and I'm sure it will bring back unpleasant memories if I tried it now...

So, thx for the invitation but I'll pass and still with what you got me using years ago now... Neutrogena Hydro Boost for part of my post shave. I have 3 great pre-shaves... hmmmm 4.. All of them work so I'm not in the market for a new product there.
