First thoughts: what a lovely shaving cream! I love the scent from the get go. I noticed the colour of the cream was an off beige. But that’s normal. It is not thirsty. does not need much water at all. Lathers great!

Final thoughts. I ordered off Amazon Canada. It was a Christmas gift from a good friend. at 30 something dollars it’s definitely a luxury. All in all worth it! By the way, This is my introduction to fine shaving creams.

Love Tobac’s hard soap. It sounds like they did equally as well with the cream.
I never tried their shave soap. I would assume that it’s at least roughly the same scent, yes? Is their soap and off beige too? To buy an actual tabac bowl with the soap is quite expensive! :O . Might be cheaper to just buy a cheap bowl and just the tabac puck.

Nice review.

If you end up enjoying it and wanting more, you can get a single tube for $15 CAD, shipped to Canada from Connaught. Buying multiple will bring the cost per tune down, as shipping will be split.

Yes, it is definitely beige. I have never tried the cream, so I can’t make an honest comparison. However, it has lasted for years, being used fairly often at times, but being set aside as I tried other soaps for sometimes months at a time. The tricky thing with triple milled soaps is figuring out the value compared to cost. There is another triple milled soaps, the name escapes me at the moment, that is more than I am comfortable paying for, but I have read that the cost per use is minimal due to the triple milled process.

Neat! where can I learn all about this “triple milled“ type of soap?

There are threads here on them. Do a search and you’ll find plenty of information. MdC is the one I was thinking about. It is not cheap, but one day I hope to try it. Here is a link you can explore, if it works right.

MdC is not really triple milled, it is cured to remove excess water (dried on a rack for several months, I believe).

Interesting. Do you know how it compares to triple milled soaps? I’m interested in trying MdC one of these days.

Milling soap is a more industrial process using machinery that presses or extrudes the soap under high pressure, usually also uses vacuum drying to remove water and condense the soap through multiple stages. The result is a harder and longer lasting soap that can be made quickly. Think of a bar of bath soap made in a factory.

Curing is a slower, more artisanal process. Freshly made soap is laid out on racks, or stacked to allow it to gradually lose water through air drying. It could take weeks or months to complete. The finished soap is much firmer than before, but may not be as dense and hard as milled soap.

Thanks for the explanation. I had no clue about cured soaps.

Thanks for the review. I've been eyeballing the soap for awhile. Just ordered some from Maggard with a bunch of other stuff. Can't wait to try it.

Thank you very much

You might just like it :D

I just looked at my old tube .... no ingredient list on mine either .... how do they get around that ??
Probably the tube was sold in a cardboard box that listed the ingredients.
mine came with a cardboard box that had it on the box too.
