My first straight razor shave.....

Well my shave ready straight came in the mail today with a strop, and I decided to give it a try.

I latehered up some Penhaligons B&B, and did kyles prep.

My shave was ok, but my prep was not as good as I usually do, so the cutting was tough. I did however manage to get a one pass shave, that left my face with stubble, but overall i enjoyed the experience. I will try again on wednesday after a nice long hot shower. I only have one small nick on my neck.

Good work! Please post your next results!

I'm glad you enjoyed the straight shave.

Big +1 on stretching the skin; I'm still learning that part too.

I did my first weekday straight shave this morning; I have been watching stropping videos so I thought I'd give it a whirl (clearly my stropping was poor, and still needs improvement).

Yet the results this morning were better. I still had to do a finishing pass (sigh, or two) with my Mergress, and how in the name of sweet little baby Jesus do you shave under your chin with a straight??

But, my cheeks are lookin' pretty good. There were a few spots that needed no cleanup, and my wife was impressed (*flex*).

I did my second shave today, and stoped before i got into the shower.

I stretched, and went for two passes with the straight. WTG and XTG, then another xtg with my slant to clean it up a bit.....

Lots of fun......

My first straight razor should be arriving in the mail this week, along with my first stop. Could you point me to the videos you've been watching to learn proper stropping technique? Thanks!

Sadly youtube is woefully inadequate in stropping instructions. However, they are barely adequate for a beginner. Search for straight razor stropping. Theres also the one this weirdo freak in a lab coat did in some hotel bathroom floating around somewhere....... :001_rolle
