SRAD - fillis, koraats, with pics and impressions

A newbie discovers SRAD....

Ill start with my favorite, the recent acquisition that changed the experience for me completely, though i already loved it.

Koraat filarmonica 2.0 with rounded point and tough beard mod, transparent blue scales. Full hollow. This mows down my tough stubble effortlessly. It cuts my shave time in half, one pass gives a DFS for most spots. I do find it tricky to do upper lip without some blood but I think I can learn. From the first pass, this blade was true love.

Filarmonica 14, blue scale. Also true love at first pass. This was not restored by me, bit of a smile but sharp as. For me it is a very nice shave but the stubborn hairs take a couple passes and/or buffing strokes.

Dovo inox SS - My first blade. Great beginner experience. No complaints but I outgrew it pretty quickly

Koraat custom with rosewood scales and rounded square point. Extra full hollow. Regular edge, not tough beard mod. Very nice shave, only used once as it arrived at a busy time. Sharp out of the box with some stropping. Love the presentation and construction of these pieces. Ulrik does fantastic work and is a pleasure to work with.

Fili 14 with black scales- not honed yet. Came from Spain. I will need to take my time to hone this beast sometime soon!

Going straight to the top shelf! Great collection. :)

How do you find the difference in face feel between the bellied and extra hollow? I have the former, and love it, and am waiting on the latter...

Thank you! I have a tendency to escalate....

I need more time with the extra hollow but I would say it gives much better feedback, very smooth for taking care of tricky areas. It doesn't mow down stubble as cleanly for the long passes like the tough beard mod can do, but it's very forgiving.

The first time I used the bellied, I had a weeks growth and it was able to do full sweeps, leaving a DFS in mostly one pass....so satisfying. But still tougher on the upper lip than the hollow for some reason,I guess for the lack of feedback.

You do need to be careful when honing super thin blades like that, it is easy to use too much pressure, flex the blade and lift the edge off the stone or prevent the very edge from making full contact with the edge.

Here is where a bit of colored sharpie ink can help you to calibrate how much is too much.

Nice collection, enjoy.
