My daily shavers - pic heavy

Thought I would post pics of my daily shavers, thus the bits of soap left on each. All of them get regular use, I select each morning based on mood.

You can see the blade I put in the Tuckaway in preparation for tomorrow's shave.

It is hard for me to imagine any improvement on these designs.

Thats a little unused badger Aristocrat shave brush in the back. Marked "Made in Western Germany". Any thoughts on vintage of that?

By the way, I had that nickel Old Type replated here in Saudi Arabia. They did the best job I have ever seen.

A great looking gang there, all OC's aswell. HAve you been over the the BOTOC thread?

By the way is that Sloans any good for colds? mines starting to behave very badley!

Yes, I have moved almost exclusively to open comb razors. Glad you like the round up.

I have yet to use the Sloans Liniment. I bought that for the nostalgia of the old fashioned label.

What do you find advantageous about the open comb?

I like the aggressiveness in particular. With closed comb razors the lather catcher wipes off the shaving cream before the blade makes contact with the hair and I question whether this was a step forward. I have a couple of closed comb razors that I use occasionally. In particular I have a fat handled tech that I use as a travel razor. It does a great job and I actually look forward to using it when I travel. It is easy and forgiving, almost boring.

I also like the nostalgia of the vintage open combs, which is why my collection is only vintage at the moment. The tuckaway that you see above was manufactured in 1925! It makes me wonder where it has been and the times it would have seen. The great depression, storm clouds in Europe, Pearl Harbor, VJ, VE, George Marshall, Berlin air lift, up with the wall, civil rights, space flight, man on the moon, cuban missiles, down with the wall, many unfortunate foreign involvements, etc.

Interesting, I never considered the lather catcher. I'm a vintage/nostalgia lover too, now you've really peaked my interest! Thanks for posting the pics!!
