Rockwell 6C versus 6S - is it real or is my shave a pipe dream? IMO

Just FYI, the 6S is my daily razor (Plate 3) and I haven't found any other one that works for me as well. Not even the AS-D2.
I used to have a 6C and only upgraded to the 6C because the thread on the 6C-handle wore out and they offered me a 6S for 50% off.
But personally I didn't see much of a difference in shaving quality due to the weight. But the 6S is there to last.

I’m a recent convert from Gilette cartridges. I still have a ton because I buy them in bulk from Costco and use them in the shower when I’m in a hurry. I started DE shaving with a Merkur 34c and Feather Yellow blades … I didn’t think it could get better. BBS awesomeness. After discovering Badger & Blade and reading about the Rockwell’s, I gifted myself a Rockwell 6S for Christmas. At first, I thought it was too heavy. In fact, I almost returned it this morning. Seriously. The first time I used it, I loaded it with Personna “Red” blades on Setting 4 — and it was the best shave of my life. Then this evening, after my first honing of my first straight razor, I shaved with it and it was a fair shave (without a single cut :)). But I decided to switch to the DE to finish my ATG shave because I didn’t want to press my luck with the straight. Dang me if I didn’t get an even better shave out of it this evening, using the same blade for the second shave! Unbelievable! I haven’t tried the Feather blades yet, but I will soon enough. I need to send the straight out to a pro to set the bevel while I watch more videos on technique but this 6S will get a lot more use for sure!

It’s interesting that people say this - I have never tried the C versions, so I don’t have a comparison. the original post is about this, so it’s a good data point for people shopping or thinking about getting a razor from them.

Timeless makes some good stuff - I figured their finish wouldn’t quite match the Rockwell finish, but it’s close. Every once in a while you can find the handles in the scratch and dent section, but the discount isn’t much more than just buying a handle.

I could do with a little better knurling on the stock handle, it sometimes feels a little more slick than I’d like, but it’s never slipped. I know they bead blasted the version 2 of the 6S, but I think the knurling is the same depth still - but it was done because of feedback that the original was a little to aggressive. Not sure how that translates to the difference between the 6C handle and the 6S handles.
I have both 6c and 6s. I find the matte finish provides a bit more grit feel that the chrome finished 6c knurling. Translates to better grip for me with the 6s.

Ano question: should I try the Rockwell blades or purchasea few astra/facet, derby blades versus Rockwell?
havesaw mixed reviews on Rockwell blades?
I don't care for Rockwell blades, I prefer; Feather, Nacet or Voskhod.
Pretty much, though it is quite a serviceable handle, I just didn't care for it from an aesthetics viewpoint also. Top handle is from a Timeless .68. Loved the handle but didn't care for the head. Bottom is from Razorock.

Thanks. Honestly I don't know that I really had any issues with the stock matte finish, but prefer the look of the polished version. I should get them out side by side sometime to see if there is any real difference in my hand.
i never experience any kind of drag - really not sure what supposed is was about.

Nope makes perfect sense to me. Perhaps the premium feel of the 6S is winning you over but the 6C is my general beginner razor recommendation. It’s fantastic, adjustable and reasonably priced and can be used by everyone other than blade feel fanatics, everyday, forever.

@Virgil Sollozzo I am very happy for you and I know what you’re talking about regarding the feeling you have using the Rockwell 6S. I’ve never used the 6C but the 6S feels so natural to use and the industrial, tool/tank-like feeling is wonderful. Add to that some gold and bam you got yourself a beauty. I haven’t seen the gold 6S in person but that photo looks sharp. I also have to say the Rockwell customer service was excellent. I emailed them about the color on my red 6S chipping off. I sent photos and they offered to send me a new razor. I wasn’t looking to get something from them other than maybe advice, but they sure stepped up and I am very pleased with all aspects of my experience with Rockwell. Enjoy your shaves!

I only have the 6C, use it with plate 4. Very smooth razor, but i prefer open combs now like Fatip Piccolo or Yaqi Mellon. These give me a slightly closer shave.
My gunmetal finish 6C looks a bit ugly because the finish has worn off partly. I find it to be a very good razor but a bit boring compared to a Fatip.

Fatip Gentile is a favorite.

Here’s my 6S collection. I just got the gold in yesterday and will try it tonight.

Very nice! I *almost* got a black one back around the new year…. One seller on the eBays will vary the price… it was as low as $88.

remember to look up discount codes for rockwell, they get another 10% off, even over the sale prices.

I was curious about the PVD coating on the black razor - if it makes it feel a little more slick than the matte stainless version. Wouldn’t change the experience for me - I do appreciate a polished surface, like the 6C might have, but don’t notice any drag with the matte versions…. But then again, I’ve mostly used matte stainless razors for the last few years.
