Musgo Real Glyce Soap.is it worth the price?

The title of the thread pretty much says it all.

One of my co-workers, who shares the same DE addiction as myself, raves about the benefits of using Musgo Real's Glyce Soap as a preshave wash/prep. I want so badly to believe it but need more information on it.

Also through WCS it is around 9 bucks shipped to my house. So is it worth the $$$? Or is there a comparable product that may be less cash and/or more accessable then ordering online?

I tried it some time ago, but didn't find it that helpful for my shave. It actually tended to dry my skin, but obviously this may be something unique to my skin. I now don't even wash my face prior to shaving. I've found it best to shave after a shower and not even wash my face. I usually just wet it well with hot water, work up the lather on my face and go from there.

I tried it and it was just ok, not great, and I dont see myself spending that kind of money on it. I actually use the VDH Deluxe shaving soap as my prep soap (if I dont shower before shaving).

Any high-glycerine soap will work as a pre-shave.

You can try the Clearly Natural bar, Whole Foods 365 glycerin bar or plain old Dr. Bronner's.

The Mrglo is so slick that when I hold it in my hands and wet it I always have a hard time hanging onto it. It keeps slipping out. Perhaps there are other glycerin soaps for which that is true. But for me at least it is slicker than most any other soap i've used.

I found that it did nothing to improve my shave. Taking time to build a lather and apply it to my face was more than enough to do the job.

Just ordered the Ach Brito version of Glyce Lime soap. It is a bit cheaper and it has the same ingredient list as MR. $7 a puck on Amazon if you buy 3. I'll post here when I try it...

I initially used it like a normal bath soap. Rubbed between the hands and then onto the face. When I think to use it now I use a small travel brush, few spins on the soap bar and then apply to the face as in lathering. I let it sit there while whipping up a normal lather then apply over the top and shave normally.

Now that I have time on my hands I've taken to getting a towel (even bought a shaving towel) nice and hot and wrapping it around my face for a few minutes before I shave. Once I discovered mrglo I now often wash my face with the mrglo and work it into a bit of a lather then leave that on under the hot towel. By the time I wipe it off with the towel it's left my face nice and soft and I imagine with a very slight glycerin layer on it to make the blade slide smoothly.

Worth is always highly subjective/YMMV no matter what the topic. If you want to know if it's worth it to you then you have to try it and see. No amount of reading opinions will answer your question for you. Skin, beards, water, brushes, budget, etc all vary from person to person.

...and preshave wash/prep varies from person to person as well.

Other's opinions is what this place is all about. It's a good place to start when you are unsure you want to try it. I agree that worth is very subjective and varies from person to person.... but "is it worth it?" is a figure of speech not necessarily to be taken literally. I think what the OP is asking is "Is it good compared to other glycerin soaps?" I've never used it, so I can't answer, but I've wondered if a glycerin soap (particularly MR) is a decent product myself.

I had a small sample of it. Didn't like it as much as proraso preshave.

Dont plan on rebuying it.

I do like musgo shave cream and splash though.

I really like the Lime Glyce, and thought prep with it was the key to good shaves.

I decided it was too pricey, when I discovered that ordinary glycerin soap, 3 cakes for 4 bucks, gives me the same prep.

I'll splurge on it once in a while, though, it is a nice luxury.

I use Clearly Natural Glycerine soap as a beard prep in the shower. You can get it at Dollar Tree for $1 for a large 4 ounce bar. I use the Aloe Vera version. They also have Honeysuckle and Vitamin E versions. It appears other versions are available just not at Dollar Tree. Pretty slick and I didn't find that it dried my skin out. I don't think glycerine soaps are all that much different. Those that may want to try a glycerine prep soap may want to try this at $1 for a 4 ounce bar with no shipping costs.
