MUSGO REAL LIME GLYCE SOAP: NOT JUST FOR PRE-SHAVE
In my still newbish quest for knowledge and improvement, I've been exploring just how to use various pre-shaves, and have realized they really help. Pre-shaves seem all the rage these days as one of the keys to more perfect prep, and Musgo Real Lime Glyce soap is one of the hot products now. So I thought I'd try -- clearly my prep needed to be upped.
Most of the discussion about Musgo has been how best to use it as a pre-shave: rinse it off, wipe off, or leave on underneath your lather has typically been the range of discussion regarding pre-shave soaps. But I don't think I've noticed anyone mentioning simply using it as a shave soap?! So, naturally, I did. While I couldn't generate a lather with it in a shaving cup, applying it directly to my face like a stick and then lathering it up with a boars brush did produce a lather, but with no staying power, which quickly shrank down to what would with other soaps seem thin and watery. So, I loaded up my brush some more and thickened the lather, which, while it never really got thick, did get very slick. I got a great shave with Musgo RLG soap alone!
This, of course begs the same question of other pre-shaves. Proraso Pre-Shave green is a much loved classic. I like it too, but find it a bit less "thick" than Noxzema, or simply that's because I use less of the Proraso because it's about 6 times the price. I've read once or twice that shaving with Noxzema alone was not uncommon in the 50s and 60s when the product was much more popular than today.
What about shaving with Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Noxzema, or other "pre-shave" products alone? For instance, Sharpologist in one of his videos says that Corn Huskers Lotion has identical (or almost) ingredients to one of the major brands of pre-shave products.
Anyone have any similar observations, experiments, questions to share?
