What's new

Let's Talk TEA - (Trialethanolamine)

Gents,

Like many of you, I love a thick, sumptuous, creamy shave product. Be it a cream, soap, or aftershave, the balmier and richer the better (for me).

It has come to my attention that many of these products have Triethanolamine. Studies indicate that Triethanolamine is carcinogenic.

So, I ask you: do you avoid products that contain Triethanolamine? Are you concerned? Do you know of any great product or brands that decidedly don't contain it?

I welcome your comments and wisdom on this issue.

Cheers.

John

Hadn't heard of it as a carcinogen and something to avoid.

BRANDS:

A quick google of "Triethanolamine shaving creams" shows it's commonly used for many personal care products and specifically in shaving creams used as a dispersant, wetting agent, enriching lather and pH balancing, including in a number of leading wet-shaving brands: Castle Forbes, TOBS, Gillette, Barbasol...

What brought it to your attention and inspires your inquiry?
Unfortunately I know of no comprehensive ingredients resource for wet-shaving products (which would be nice to be able to compare, and search for things we'd like to acquire or avoid).

Are you saying that I shouldn't bother worrying about it? I would love to hear that.

It's that kind of thing that's kept me from trying Proraso actually.I've been exposed to enough stuff in the past, why push the envelope?
Although I see now that it's also in my beloved VDH soap *sigh* what next? LOL

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I avoid SLS, but its because of a personal skin sensitivity to it, not because I think it's dangerous. I generally avoid parabens, which is pretty easy these days.

Triethanolamine? Nope. Not a big deal.

I breath NJ air every day. Do you really think I'm concerned with some minute ingredient in a shaving product? I had no complaint with parabens. I just wish they'd stop ruining good creams and soaps with reformulations.

I'll second that. Actually, I'd worry more about the things that end up in all the food we eat than in what we put on our skin, which really doesn't get into your bloodstream.
