Keeping your pockets empty.

I was wondering how many people say "I shall not be bullied by you pen!!"

I have a MB 149 that I often carry and use at work. I really treat it as a workhorse and do not mind scratches etc on the body. I find myself often placing my cell phone in the same scrub pocket, which often bumps and rubs against the pen. Now, I have nicer pens that I use on my days off, and I try to keep my shirt pockets clear from anything that may ding the pen.

Am I a bit crazy here, or do others do this as well?

Perhaps a better description would be different, odd, eccentric, careful, fastidious, or unique. When it comes down to it, it is just a tool to write with and if you want to keep it looking nice that is your choice.

My Kaweco Ice Sport is regularly in my jeans/shorts pocket, along with keys, change, pocket knife, etc. It's definitely showing some cosmetic wear, but functionally, it's perfect. At least with this pen it won't cost a small fortune to replace it should it ever fail. Like Mr5x5 says, it's a tool, not a fashion accessory!

Issac I do the same thing. My pocket pen is a Pelikan m150 a touch shorter and slimmer than an m200. I know it isn't an m149 but it is the one of two pens I don't mind getting scratched up. The other is a parker 45, they were built to be used. Now you wouldn't catch me doing that with something like a MB F. Scott Fitgerald any time soon.

I usually keep my phone separated from my keys/pen. I hate scratches on my phone, and keep any casing as slim as possible to facilitate constant removal and replacement in the pocket. I usually wear my pen in a shirt pocket, but if I'm forced to place it in my pants pocket, I typically put it with my keys. All of my pens are "user grade" so scratches don't really matter much.

Scratches on my work gear doesn't bother me.
I'm currently using a Cross BP (no FP at work today ) and it's in pretty rough shape.
But it works and does what I need it to do.

A good tool will stand up to daily use.

I typically clip my pen between shirt buttons (no shirt pockets). Probably frowned upon by the fashion police, but they haven't caught me yet.

Your name has been noted and reported to Boro. You can run. But you can't hide... unless you're wearing the appropriate footwear and camouflage.

My Cell has its own pocket always to itself, And I really don't like things in my shirt pockets, Pens tend not to disturb this so they get to be there on their own anyways... but the odd times I don't have a shirt pocket I don't mind most of my pens in a pocket with something's, but keys or anything with a sharper edge would bother me as I moved about

actually that's the picture I used to make my avatar with, which I messed with in Picasa, though it looks like this but black and white the actual picture looks a lot different at full scale,... but im at work on my phone and picture is on my main PC, this is my standard used one.. others are flipped to either without my knowledge lol of because of some reason like yesterdays bigfoot

My fountain pens are the only things in my shirt pockets because they have clips to keep them from falling out. Of course, if there's more than one pen, they could bang against each other.

On the rare occasions that I carry an FP in a pants pocket, it goes in a slim pen case. That's partly to protect it; it doesn't bother me if a cheap plastic pen gets scratched, but if it can be avoided with ordinary care, that's even better. It also helps keep it from turning sideways and snagging.

All my fountain pens are work horses. That said, I have a frankenpelikan that I found parts for all over that I carry daily in my pocket. The brassing is worn off, the cap is engraved with someone's name I can't read but the nib is fun... I should change that out... I digress. I don't want to lose the pen but it can't look much worse than it currently does and I baby all my pens- even my Sharpies and Expo's so hopefully I will have it for a long time!

That is why there are single pen pouches. Actually, it is a very good idea to protect the high gloss finish of the 149!

+1 on this. My Kaweco Ice Sport was purchased to be a pocket pen. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and it's already starting to show marks from being in the same pocket as my keys and knife, but I love always having it available. The only thing that gets a dedicated pocket is my phone because I can't stand the thought of scratching it up with my keys.
