What's new

Its first straight shave day

Been growing up some whiskers to whack since Thursday morning and plan on getting into my mantra after I get off of work this evening and see how things go with a freshly honed Dovo. Here's hoping to 3 nicks or less with a WTG shave and (depending on how things go) an XTG shave.:shaving:

Suggest a shaving cream to use from what I have and I'll give that a go tonight:

TOBS Sandalwood
T&H 1805
C.O. Bigelow
My Time Bath and Body Custom: Menthol, Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Oil
My Time Bath and Body: Sandalwood

1805!

Good luck, remember no pressure, and if youre in doubt of the angle then get the spine closer to the skin

So I survived my 1st straight shave thankfully and have little to no battlescars. Ended up BBS on the cheeks and DFS on the neck, chin, and mustache line with only one nick on my chin and another on my neck to show for it and a little redness on the neck, but nothing serious, so I'm gonna go ahead and call that a succesful first straight shave.

I noticed that fresh out of a Lynn honing that the blade felt like it was tugging a bit straight out of the box, so I went ahead and tested out my stropping skills as per the instructions. Not too hard, and the blade felt much smoother after about 20 strop passes back and forth. The blade doesn't pass the hanging hair test, but still feels damn sharp and didn't kill my face, so I guess that's what counts right?:001_smile

Yeup... IMO, HHT is overrated. It's the AHT (Attached to face Hair Test). If it passes that, it's good to go. Enjoy the wonderful world of straight shaving!

The only question I have at the moment is when will I know when its time to try a finishing hone to refresh my blade over normal stropping? I'm not sure what to look for in terms of feel.

When you feel you can't get a good shave out of it and stropping stops working. Its really a personal decision. As is honing.
