Is Van Der Hagen making new soaps?

I know full well that Van Der Hagen makes inferior shaving soaps, but it is what I began with. VDH in the green packaging or Williams shaving soap are the only shave soaps I could ever find in stores where I live. $IMG_0343.jpgRecently, I saw these (Newer?) VDH soaps at Rite Aid. $IMG_0347.jpgAre they the same old soaps with fancy, new packaging? I am curious because there now appears to be a scented and unscented version. Anyone tried these? There's also now a badger brush instead of the boar brush. Has anyone tried that brush?

The new soaps are definitely different, and much improved over the basic line which is still manufactured. The badger brush is a shedder, and better brushes can bet purchased for the price. VDH has also released other products in their Luxury lineup.

One way to know for sure is to try them. If you don't want to try them, the ingredient list will give you the right picture.

I think those soaps have been around for a little while.
I have the Badger Brush(Trade from a Fellow B&B member) And unlike some have experienced, I Haven't lost many hairs from the Badger.
The Boar is another Story.

I really like the luxury scented VDH. Even after all this time I have a puck in the rotation. It really performs rock solid and easy.

Not surprised that my local drugstores are 2 years behind the times. Being a newbie, I find myself asking questions that "have been discussed at length many times already" on the forums. Yet, when I put my topic into the quick search, I don't always get a list of posts with those topics. Oh, well. As I become more experienced, I look forward to becoming the one seeing newbies posting out of date topics and trying to help the. Perhaps there is a way to direct newbies to these past discussion links when the websites search engine is not as helpful?

The old school VDH soaps aren't horrible by any stretch. They are as good as any Mama Bear offering. Good cushion, very slick. They are just a bit boring in the fragrance department and there are other soaps that are better out there for not much more coin.

VDH makes a fine soap. They are just not very interesting. The "new" ones have been around for a while now. The whole line is full of solid performers, readily available and cheap.

Just because something has been discussed at length, does not mean a question or topic is foolish, irrelevant or unwarranted. The topic was new, for YOU, and as you can tell, everyone is more than happy chime in. We were all newbies once; some more recent than others. The learning curve is quick.

Absolutely! If we couldn't bring up subject that have already been discussed, there wouldn't be much to talk about. You're subject line was very clear so anyone who felt that it was just another repeated subject could easily skip it rather than click on the link and tell you that it's been discussed already. Ask away!

I like VDH soap, the only one I've used is the original. I like the scent and the way it works. I used Williams for years as it was the only one available to me, imagine my surprise and happiness finding out ALL shave soap weren't the same as Williams LOL I'm eager to try VDH's other offerings now...that is as soon as my current puck is gone ;-)

The search function here is a bit underwhelming. Go to Google and enter your search string prefaced with site:badgerandblade.com. You'll get much better results. But like the others said, don't be afraid to ask whatever you want.

I think the VDH soaps are good ones, BTW.

Of the "higher end" soaps that usually get mentioned on B&B, I've only used Tabac, and while it's a fine soap, honestly it's no better for me than VDH Luxury (scented). And once I started building lather with the brush pointing up like Mantic recommends for Mitchell's Wool Fat, I can get some really rich and slick lather. I get fantastic shaves and can't imagine a better soap for the money. There's nothing inferior about VDH soaps. I also use the VDH badger brush and like it just fine, too.

Bingo.

This isn't one of the forums that respond to every question with "Use the search"
A few people may do it, but they don't do it for long
If it's something covered in the Shavewiki, you might get a pointer there.

I would not go so far as to say that the Van der hagen soaps are inferior. The brushes may be good or shed alot varying from brush to brush. The deluxe soap which I use all of the time is very moisturizing and is what I use when my skin acts up from too much of other less moisturizing soaps.

I would have to disagree with the VDH soaps being inferior. For their price point they are actually pretty good. It's a pretty decent utility soap, just not a luxury item. I had no problems shaving with VDH and Williams for my first year of DE shaving. I still have a puck of VDH for weekend use as well as spares of VDH and Williams in the closet.

These are pretty decent soaps for the price. The Luxury line soaps are definitely a notch above the Deluxe line.
