Ikon OSS VS Ikon S3S ?

Hello dear subforum :biggrin1:

I'm contemplating getting either the OSS or the more expensive S3S - but other than the OSS being 1,5 cm longer and 30 grams lighter - what is the difference between the two razors ?

I hated the mildness of my Feather DE - needed a 999 pass shave to get a 50% BSS/BBS shave with a brand new Feather DE blade - changed to a new one after every single pass :biggrin1:

I skipped WTG, and did an ATG, but with no success at all. I went into a special training camp facility to learn and discover the correct touch, angle of attack and how much I should loosen the shaft to obtain a less mild shave - still after 25+ shaves, the Feather DE still sucked just as much as when I did the first pass with it.

Currently own EJ Bulbous Lined Chrome, EJ Chatsworth Barley, Mühle Stylo Thuja wood and a Muhle Sophist R41 - and I like them all.
Also use Feather Artist Club Japanese straight razor and love it.

What will suit me best - the Ikon OSS or the Ikon S3S, or are they both too mild for my taste ?

I can't test it, so will have to blind buy it and hope for the best :001_tt2:

Thanks for any advice you can give me

I own most of the ones you have mentioned, including the OSS and S3S. I believe that you would find the iKons too mild for what you are looking for. They are both built like tanks however and should last you for a very long time if you choose to go that way. What I would tend to suggest, based on your experience, would perhaps be the Joris, Tradere OC or the Cobra Classic. I can't quite get the Tradere to be as "perfect" as I would like it to be; but many swear by it - and it's build quality is as good as any razor ever made. The Joris is also of amazing build quality - shaving very much like a "smoother" R41...if that makes any sense. Since you already have a Feather AC - you really ought to try the Cobra Classic. You know how effective the blades are already and the Cobra makes using them all the easier.

Thanks - sold my Feather DE, it was FAR FAR too mild for me.....

Probably too mild, but the s3s comes with a bulldog handle you can use on anything. The oss handle is smaller. Also, the s3s cap covers the blade ends. Another effective shaver is the Weber, and a slant cuts whiskers easily and very well. Good luck! If you still had the feather, I would trade for a limited time with you so we could each try something new without all the investment.

+1

+2 try a Tradere instead, I sold an IKON (??? the one side OC and CC on the other with aluminum head) and the OSS hasn't seen any use since I have the Tradere. You will most likely also need soemthing more aggressive than the IKONs you are contemplating about.

I would agree that the OSS/S3S are going to be too mild for you also. However if you are set on an iKon search out the open comb deluxe (open comb on both sides) which was an older model as I have found them to be perfect in their aggressiveness.
