I feel the need to thin the herd!

I feel the need to thin my razor herd, but I'm not sure what I should give up. I just got the Feather AS-D1 and I'm thinking I should sell it because it really isn't working out. On the other hand it's my most expensive razor. I almost feel obligated to keep it just because of that. It's the AS-D1 or my Merkur 38C, which was my first DE. Decisions, Decisions :cursing:

How long have you been using DE razors? I'm wondering if you may find that over time that AS-D1 turns out to be your favourite razor? On the other hand, you can sell it for very little loss, and put that money into soaps.

I have put razors in the back of the drawer, writing them off as "not for me", only to be blown away by how great they are a few months down the road.

How long have you owned each of them?

I had an AS-D1 for a long time. I sold mine. NOT because I didn't like it. They are fantastic razors. I sold mine because I had so many razors that when I used one at a time I would go several months between using it again.

If you only have 2 razors and one is not working out. Put it aside and come back to it later. If I can go 2-3 months between using a razor it should not be difficult for any one to do it.

thats' exactly the same reason i sold mine as well. i kind of wish i hadn't, but i don't really regret it as i don't get to most of my razors very often.

Don't get me thinking about this.. I've already replaced 4 of the razors I sold with the exact same models and the AS-D1 is on my short list of "man did I goof when I sold that one" list

I love the feel of the AS-D1 but never mastered the shave. After buying the Ikon OC base plate however I get a great shave and still get to look at and hold that great razor

Put it away in a cabinet for 2 months and don't use it.
Get some shaves in with a razor you like and work on angle and technique, then go back to it.
You'll be amazed at how much a rest in a cabinet does to improve the shave from a razor!
