How to remove the odor of a new Vie-Long?

I received a Vie-Long horse hair 13710 yesterday that I want to try to use for travel. Today I whipped up a bowl of lather with MB Dragon Tears, and the brush worked well. Didn't put it to my face though. It stank of dirty horse and brown dirty lather came out to it.
So, how do you recommend cleaning and deodorizing one of these?

Thanks,

JR

You can also use Proraso/CO Bigelow - this is a method I learned here to de-stink a brush - you make a somewhat soupy lather with warm water and the Proraso and get the mix really into the knot and then let it sit for an hour or so. Reduces/eliminates the smell. I ran it twice on my Vie Long for the reasons you noted.

Have you used the brush yet?

I just ordered one from Bullgoose because I couldn't resist the deal and love the Vie-Long handles, plus my SBAD is kicking in.

Phil did advise to clean it well before use.

Hi ! I have received(from Phil) my ( HorseHair ) 13061-- 2 days ago. very Nice brush-- with VERY !! Dirty hairs ! Washed it with soaps ( liquid and bar)-- many times : it-- worked !

Just-- wash your brush--' till the water runns clean, and then-- Enjoy it !

( by the way : I SO Liked my 1-st " Vie Long"---that, yesterday,-- have ordered the 2-nd brush : with White Badger ( saving - 20%%-- using Code Vie-Long )

I just got a 13061 from Phil at Bullgoose. I used my shampoo to give it a good washing. This is my usual trick. The first wash turned the water gray. It was bad enough that I gave it a second wash. This is something I usually don't do. I have used it twice. The smell is not too bad.
