How much for YOUR Cobra

Recently I've fallen in love with my Cobra Classic. It appears to be one of the early ones with small holes and no apparent QC problems. I've setteled on Feather pro blades and find it real easy to use. I get great smooth DFS and BBS haves regardless of cream of soap. I've even gone with out cream, soap and just used Nivea body wash. Not bad I think for an E-bay purchase that cost me inc postage a mere £65 ($102).

So how much did you pay and how does my purchase price compare?

I paid retail price from Classic Shaving, and I'd be willing to bet most on here who have one also paid retail for theirs. They rarely come up for sale on B/S/T or other places (e.g., eBay). Congrats on your score.

I paid either $110 or $115 for mine. Was pre-owned, but the guy had only used it twice. Came with 2 packs of Feather Pro blades (minus 1). He posted it, I snagged it in less than 5 minutes on another board's B/S/T nearly 2 years ago. It's been a perfect shaver ever since and probably the best money I've spent so far on shaving gear.

I think both of my sets (Cobra Classic with deluxe gift box) cost $169 and included the Feather Pro blades. If the blade package is worth $24 that would make the razor about $145. Both were purchased in 2013. The first one has the small holes and the second has the larger holes. They both shave wonderfully.

Good info. Thank you.

I paid my wetshaving virginity to the Cobra and it is one of those high school romances that is working out long term.

I was just mooching around on E-bay earlier this year and there it was, with a pack of blades but no case. It had been on a buy it now for around 30 mins or bid on it. I jumped and paid for it. The case dont matter to me and the blades were pro guards so I wasnt getting very good shaves. I was alittle disapointed so put it away and carried on with my TTO' OCs'. But when I came a cross a cheape pack of Pro blades for £10 inc postage I gave it another shot. Glad I did. Smooth all the way. I was going to pull the trigger on new but was just waiting...like a cobra (sorry). this and my Aristocrat #15 are my most expensive razors.

I think you got a good deal. I paid (I think) $140 including postage from US to Oz for an earlier model, came with quite a few blades. I also bought a new one retail back in April, but I think my earlier model performs better.

The Feather Pro blades are the only ones that work in the early models (of the feather brand) - that's why the holes were made bigger on later models, so that the pro 'super' blade would fit :) not sure about the pro guard blades - you'll have to check the dimensions of them - perhaps that's why you got a lousy shave with them? The pro light blades have different slots in them.

I bought a Cobra off ebay. I paid around $120. What are the "holes" you speak of?

It's the holes in the head of the razor where the swinging safety bar pivots. In earlier models they were really just a good size for the pins to comfortably sit in and pivot. On later models the holes were enlarged to allow some extra play in the safety bar - enabling some different blades to be used ie the Feather pro 'super' blade. For some razors it appears this alteration has led to some issues with blade alignment and the feeling that the action is just not 'tight'.

For example, in my newer cobra, the pro blade really is a poor fit and takes some fiddling to get it aligned straight with the safety bar and when closed, it doesn't feel as 'snug' as my earlier model - it seems to be fine with a 'super' blade, as this is a slightly wider blade and seems to tighten everything up.

For me the Pro guard blades were my equevilent of Derby DE blades, just bl**dy awful. akmost like they were blunt, tugging and roughness. The Pro blades, which sit fine in my cheap Cobra are the bees' knees'. I still only get around 7 days out of each blade though. So I asked SWMBO for a couple of packs for my impeding 39th (no really? again?) Birthday.

+1. What he said, right down to the birthday....
