Help identifying possible purchase

I am talking to someone regarding a possible "antique razor" purchase locally. I saw an ad. The person selling has no real idea what the razors are (identifying them). They only stated "antique safety razors". I do like the Gillette blade box which has 8 blades in it. The Christy box has 15 blades.

Can anyone help me identify these? I know the picture doesn't show much of the razors, but you guys are experts here. Are they Gillette razors?

The price is $30 for the lot...blades with boxes and the 2 razors. But, before I drive 40 minutes to go try identify them in person, I'd like to know if they're at least Gillettes. THANKS!

The razor on the left is either a Gem or an Ever-Ready. The other is a Gillette, but someone else will have to tell you which one. I doubt the blades have any real value. $30 sounds high depending on the value of the Gillette.

Quick reply. Thanks.

It's mainly the razors I'm interested in anyways. I do not really care about the blades. The Gillette box is a nice item though.

Anyone else have an idea about the era of the possible Gillette razor.

I just started wetshaving and collecting...beginning to fall into the same trap all of you did. :w00t::lol:

I'm always looking out for razors at antique shops, yard sales, etc.

The razor on the left is either a Gem 1912, or Ever-Ready 1912. This is a Single Edge razor, and considered one of the best of the Single Edge bunch. Gem's shave great, and are an experience ever Wet Shaver should partake upon at least once.

The razor on the right is either a Gillette Old, or a Gillette New Improved. As such it would have been manufactured before 1929 (the date when the Gillette New debuted).

Here's a website with photos to help you identify: http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Gillette%20Rasierer.htm

The $30 cost doesn't seem that unreasonable. That's $15.00 each, which is a good price for a decent quality razor; some plate loss is to be expected on a Gillette of this age.

The one on the bottom right is definitely a bulldog three-piece, and $30 for that alone is an excellent price -- BUY THAT BAD BOY!!!

By the way, my avatar is that same razor.

EDIT: The black you see on the razor is just tarnish, and it will polish up beautifully.

In the picture the head on the bulldog looks crooked. Hopefully that's just something weird about the photo though

Buy them and send the bulldog to me it isnt worth anything and the shaves are terrible :tongue_sm I just used mine to day in my sotd.

Crap. He had listed it several times over the last month and couldn't sell it. Then I go to reply to him this morning and it's gone. :frown:

I did see this interesting shaving-related ad though:

And a 1920s Kriss Kross blade stropper for sale locally. Cool item, but I don't need it. (yet) :w00t:

Oh well...I snoozed, I losed. (horrible grammar, wow)
