Does Not Shaving cause your face to break out?

I've recently come to the conclusion that if I don't shave every day, my face will actually break out.

I assume, since I'm not a doctor, that it might be due to the exfoliation of shaving.

Anyone else experience this?

For me it's not the shaving, it's the care regimen that I have when I shave. For some unknown reason, my skin really likes AoS soap and just using it to wash my face keeps me from breaking out.

Yep, my skin and face look tremendously better after taking up quality shaving and proper care.

As ugly as I am now, just imagine how bad it was before! :scared:

Back in 1969 I was in LSU School of Law and it was tradition not to shave during finals, I broke out with a lot of zits under that beard, then I got drafted the next semester and never went back to law school so I never tried a beard again

Yes, that happens to me. Whenever I get sick I don't shave for a couple of days. My bread growing in causes all sorts of irritations and breakouts.

Shaving is a form of exfoliation and exfoliation removes the dead skin that can cause bacteria to be trapped in the pores, so yes not shaving may result in increased dead skin and increased clogged pores. That said, it is important to realize that there is shaving and there is shaving! For me and YMMV, using a cartridge actually did more damage because it cause ingrown hairs. Switching to DE shaving has resulted in a tremendous improvement in my overall skin condition for two reasons: 1) I enjoy it much more so I shave daily and hence I'm exfoliating daily, and 2) I get almost no ingrown hairs with DE shaving.

As a law school graduate, I can tell you that you did not miss ANYTHING!

I don't know why it is but if I don't shave my face seems to break out in whiskers everywhere......

I shave once a week and get better results than shaving 2 times a week...oils in your skin build up to aid in easier whisker whacking...:001_smile

I also get breakouts when I don't shave, but this is probably due to my paying better attention to my skin care on days that I do shave.

+1

I tried shaving with a disposable 2 weeks ago. and it gave me tremendous amount of ingrown hair. they care less. as long as it brings them $. and until this day. I can't seem to treat that area.

with a DE, I never get ingrown hair

I get the zits and bumps on a totally irregular schedule...on face and, irritatingly elsewhere...and I'm ?%$#! sixty three!! When does it end?

Back in puberty, one of my aunts used to be a beautician. She explicitly recommended that I should use shaving soap instead of canned goo to keep the acne at bay.

I had spots much later than most people. They've cleared up, but for me shaving, or not, didn't affect it.

Sometimes I put it off for a while because I like a little scruff, and now that you mention it, I break out then too.

Same here as well. I'm an every other day shaver. If I go 4 days plus (scruffy long weekend) my skin suffers and I breakout. My wife thinks it odd that I shave on weekends now.
