I purchased a tub in early 09 (iirc) from somebody here off the B&B (I deleted all my messages a while back, so I do not remember who; greatest apologies Sir.) and from the first smell absolutely loved it. The richness, the strong pungent smell, dark gold color, and of course the quality of the lather and protection was pure Cyril R. Salter. (Yes Im a bit of a fan.) I had about a half inch left in the tub and ordered another one along with some Wild Rose. Meanwhile, I have been talking to a friend at work about DEs and all that goes with it. I decided to put together a PIF and get him going. I grabbed a bowl, a nice ball end Tech, a vintage Simms brush, new box of blades, and a couple samples of creams, including most of my French Vetiver. (Hay, I have another one coming right?) So it gets here, I open it up
.Completely different. Very light sent, completely different texture, it was very light and airy, pale color. What I had been using, was dark, grainy, pungent, and wonderful. I did whip up a batch to check it out, it does make a dense, wonder full lather, but it is not the same. I thought possibly I had a bad batch or something, but it is identical to the Rose in texture, and almost in color. It seems to have a bit of a nasty mayonnaise smell, not much Vetiver.
My assumption is I originally purchased a tub that had been around for a while that was an old formula. The ingredient list is identical, tub is the same size, everything. This has been my 4-5 times per week go-to, I wont give up easily trying to find some, or replace it with another Vetiver cream or soap.
The question is: When was this reformulated in the past, and more importantly, are their other recommendations for other Vetiver creams, or soaps from any Vetiver aficionados? The stronger the better!
