Cutting leather

I wanted a piece of leather cut for a paddle strop I am putting together but seeing how I am not as good with my hands as someone like Tony Miller I needed a foolproof way to cut my leather straight, neat, and clean. So after a quick thought I decided my bandsaw should be perfect. The blade in it was dull as they get because i was cutting a small nagura with it last but it still cut like a champ. So if you need some leather cut break out the bandsaw. I could never have got the same results with a sharpest of knife blades. Just thought I would pass along a little something that works well for me.

I would've never thought to try that on leather but I can't say I'm surprised it worked so well after some of the things I've run through my saws.

FYI..... if your looking for nice straight, smooth cuts with a razor blade, place the object your cutting on a good cutting surface and clamp both ends of straight edge on the line you need cut. I like to use a 2" x 2' or 2" x 4' steel layout ruler, and then just run the razor blade down the edge.

I have done that. I have a nice 6' aluminum ruler/straight edge but there are still more flaws for me. Thank you though.

I've found rotary cutters (the circular razor blade ) and an Omnigrid ruler to be one of the best for balance of safety and precision when cutting leather.
