Comments on blue bird razor blades

Haven't heard about Bluebirds for awhile. There seemed to be some talk that they were similar to Derby's.

Here's an older thread that was all about Blue Birds.

I bought 100 and tried them. Not a smooth blade, lot of "feedback" while using it, almost felt as though the blade was rattling. The weight of my Chatsworth Jaggar helped damp the blade feedback. It felt like it wasn't very sharp, but gave a good shave. I like a smooth razor with a smooth blade in it, so I didn't go far with the Bluebird, but for those who like blade feedback typical with unplated blades, its probably a good blade. I didn't detect any fall-off in sharpness on the second and third shaves, so they probably last well, and they aren't expensive. My impression was that it was a good blade, but not what I was looking for. I have 99 of them taking up space where I could store some more Personna Reds.

I wasn't aware that it was made by Derby. I guess i'll call it their Cadillac of blades then. I enjoyed it. In a 34C it gave me a clean smooth shave. there was a lot of feedback as mentioned, I had bout a 1-2 day beard. but it was better than a Derby for sure.

Can't say that I like them at all. The blades are very thin, and not as sharp as most. I think it's a poor combo. The blade bends wail shaving, thus the high feedback, but also causes it to skip across your face. If you have softer whiskers it may not be so bad. But I will never use them again.

I liked them in my Merkur 38c from the get go , but I did not care for them in my superspeeds. I kept trying them in the superspeeds and just recently they have been giving me a great shave in the superspeeds. I was persistent in making them work in superspeeds and it paid off..

In my first pass through my sampler, Blue Bird tied for second, with Astra SPs. I'm on round 2 now, and am really curious how they'll do this time around now that my technique is better.

I tried my first Bluebird last night, and it wasn't for me. At least, it isn't at my current skill level. I could see it possibly being better for me in the future, once my technique is more trained and my face is better accustomed to the single blade.

As it was, there was a good amount of blood and a burn that was still there at the end of the night, with a few spots that didn't get a great shave. I'll probably try one again after I run through some more of my sampler pack to see if time truly does heal all wounds.

I see these blades don't get a lot of discussion on here, but rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd just resurrect an old one.

I got a couple of Blue Birds in a sampler pack, and used one today along with some Taconic lavender soap. It was a great experience. Not a single weeper and my shave is as close and smooth as it could possibly be. I'd definitely use the Blue Bird (and the Taconic) again based on today's shave.

Had I seen the comparisons to Derby before I removed the wrapper, I might've put off trying out the Blue Bird. I've never had a good experience with Derby and avoid them like the plague.

Blue Birds are awesome blades that don't get nearly the love they deserve around these parts. Nothing like Derby, IMHO. But, then again, I'm an oddball around here in that I can actually get decent shaves from Derbys. So if anyone has any lying around & they don't feel right about just chucking them in the trash, feel free to send them my way, and I'll let them fulfill their destiny in life! Lol!

I don't think they are still available in quantity. I heard they were no longer in production, I get a close shave from them but they only last 3 shaves for me.

Still around, just ordered 100 of them from Amazon. Funny reading the comments on Bluebirds and Derbys. Been working my way through my first sampler pack for several months now and hands down get the smoothest irritation, burn and nick free shaves from Bluebirds and Derbys.

I guess I have sensitive skin and anything other than D's & BB's tend to be too harsh and I can't even shave across the grain with any others without some degree of burn and irritation - a lot of burn and irritation with some blades. With D's & BB's I can do multi-passes, WTG, XTG, a bit of ATG and buff and clean up rough spots as needed without the slightest burn.

Like many have commented and I'll agree emphatically, YMMV. If it wasn't for mild, smooth blades like this guys like me would probably have to go back to shaving with a cartridge.
