What's new

Gillette Silver Blue

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I notice that Razorbladesclub.com lists two kinds of Silver Blue blades (New and Old) for sale. Can anyone elaborate on the difference? Thanks...

There may even be a newer, new, made in China. All mine are made in Russia but purchased before plants started closing.

+1! Me too!! I laid in a good stock of the Russian blades before they moved production!! :thumbup1:

Same. I have a few hundred of the Russians. Can't speak of the others made elsewhere. I would say the Indian Gillette Wilkies are pretty good if that helps.

If there are Chinese GSBs they are fakes, not Gillette licensed originals.
GSB production is still in Russia at present, no GSB new blades produced in China.

Please don't provide incorrect or untrue information.

I haven't heard of two kinda of GSB blades. But I'm pretty certain that the ones I have are the real McCoy lolz, because they shave magnificently just like any blade produced in the St Petersburg factory. Also I'm pretty certain that the other blades that say GSB are fakes, counterfeits. Why in the Sam Hill would anybody want to counterfeit razor blades? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a small return.

The Gillette Wilkies are top notch blades, and priced modestly so most gents can afford to buy a few. The Indian manufacturer of those blades must be doing something right, because a lot of gents like those blades, including me.

Read my reply again...."MAY". @ivan_101 confirmed right after my post, but I wasn't going to delete or edit it as it had already been quoted.

I don't follow the daily blade news. I have hundreds in my stock and will never need to buy again if I don't want.

I apologize I did not mean to sound rude in how I responded.
The word "MAY" is a possibility but in case of doubt better to clarify for those reading that there is no possibility or change...GSB blades currently continue to be manufactured in Russia.

I read @Ivan's rebuttal
As I know in recent years many gillette blades including King Gillette and the Gillette Platinum blades have been moved from China to Russia.

@Ivan's intervention was to clarify that the PPI plant in Russia is not closed as you had mistakenly written, perhaps you were confused.
Hence the misunderstanding arose.

I hope they do not move the production of these GSB blades to China as well.

I wanted to say thanks to those who replied to my question. I did learn that there are two different varieties of GSB blades, and they are both still made on Russia. I have a couple of the newer ones, and am quite impressed. I think I will try the older ones as well. And… I will stok up on either of these as they are great smooth blades.

And I do like both the Gillette Wilkies as well as the Indian Wilkies, but I think I like the GSB the best.

Again, thanks to everyone!

China makes some good blades already (Like the Gillette Super Thins.) The GSB's need to stay in Russia.

I am Curious about these closure talks I came across this video the gentleman from Razor Emporium here says the Russian company will close and many of their blades will be moved to China.

False and incorrect news and information?

For the record, the guy from RE is a dirtbag, not a gentleman. That is NOT incorrect or untrue information, you can look those facts up in the 300 page (exaggeration) thread on here about him and his company..

It is my believe, most blades will move production out of Russian at some point in the near future for costs or political reasons. I may be wrong, I hope I am.

If they do move, it is also quite possible the blades made in those favorites can be identical in performance.

I'm not one to dismiss a product based on where it's made. I have many great items that I use in various hobbies that are made Canada, USA, Japan, China, Germany, Thailand and many other countries. My made in China, Penn spinning fishing reels are phenomenal, as an example.

Well, he himself sells blades and razors should be well informed otherwise I don't understand why make videos where he alarms traditional shaving enthusiasts and Gillette blade lovers

Okay, I doubt that Gillette blades made in China are much better than Russian ones, but that is my mental limitation and I guess in common with many others in this forum as well.
