Help demystify Personna

Lockback

Dull yet interesting
They are mostly nice blades. At worst, the German-made ones ( Edgewell ) are eminently usable for most people and downright enjoyable for many.
Oh, I know they're excellent blades. No question about that. I've just found so many good ones outside the Personna realm I don't know if I'll try them eventually or not.

There are at least 2 different models made in Germany. One is the Personna Platinum blue for Europe, the other is the generic store brand. E.g. the Amazon ones, which were first sold as Solimo a couple of years ago, now with different names as just 'Double Edge'.

I did not know that. I've only used the Personna Plat Blues, and I find them to be pretty good shavers. As always, that is with the caveat that I have fairly easy-to-shave whiskers.

There are 2 blue Platinums. One is the discotinued product for Europe made in Israel. The other is the current production blue Platinums made in Germany. The package is different, the blades inside have absolutely identical printing, but they shave different.

It’s simple. If it’s made in the USA and it doesn’t say “hospital use” it’s a Lab Blue. Those are the only Personna blades made here.

Two or three years ago, I bought some Personna twin blade cartridges. I use them in my PII razor from India. It is basically an authorized replication of the original American Trac II.

I think the Gillette version were around $25 for 8-cartridges. While the Indian cartridges were around $16 for 24-cartridges.

I bought the Personna's on sale 100-cartridges for $14. They have the goo/slime strip on them. Hard to beat getting twin blade cartridges at this price and they are Personna to boot. I believe these were made in America?

The Belgian supermarket Delhaize (known as Maxi in Serbia and Mega in Romania) is still selling off-brand Personna Chrome-Platinum with "Made in Israel" on the carton packaging.

The plastic containers say "PROD 23/01/23 DA", long after the closure of the Edgewell factory, so I assume the carton is incorrect. Carrefour sells the same blades with "Made in Germany" on the packaging.

These blades are among the best, in my opinion.
