cleaning my gold Aristocrat

I know there have been several threads about this and that opinions differ on how to achieve the best results, so can any of you tell me the safest way to clean my gold Arisocrat?

I won't be boiling it or using any sort of polish (like Maas) - I was thinking of cleaning it gently with a soft-bristled tooth brush, warm water and dish soap and then soaking it in barbicide for 10 minutes.

That is a perfect way to go. I say this from experience. A quick spray and soak in Scrubbing Bubbles, as well, will help the cleaning action considerably. Go easy on the brushing, the gold plate and lacquer are very, very thin. Show us some pics of before and after and have fun.

Beat me to it again.....Yes this is the best way I've found to do gold razors as well....:thumbup1:

thanks. I ended up using the Nature's Choice bathroom cleaner we had laying around the house. it's supposed to be more environmentally friendly and it didn't appear to do any harm to the razor. I then gave it a light scrubbing with a soft-bristled toothbrush, dishsoap and some warm water and then soaked it in barbicide for 10 minutes. I didn't take any before shots as the razor wasn't that bad to begin with - I did take a bunch of after shots though, so all I need to do is get them uploaded somewhere and i'll post pics

A white vinegar soak did it for me. It helped get some crud that the scrubbing bubbles couldn't seem to, and although I soaked it for way longer than I needed to (almost twenty-four hours!), there was no damage at all to the plating.

Does anyone have any experience with soaking a razor in baking soda and hot water? That solution cuts through pretty much anything on my stovetop.

That is frequently done for silver razors to remove tarnish, but it also pulled off a bit of gunk when I did it to mine. I don't think it is likely to hurt nickel or gold finish, so I don't see why you couldn't do it.

I used a very weak warm-hot ish solution of Simple Green and went to work with a soft bristled baby toothbrush. Any left over gunk was tackled with a tooth pick. After that I rinsed it well and soaked it in a weak Dettol+water solution and rinsed it well. Worked perfectly. :thumbup1:

I have used simple green to clean some of the hand me down razors I got recently. It seemed to work pretty well. Though I still had to brush heavily to get some of the crud out of the corners.
