Chargin Valley BODY soap bars

Hey guys,

We all know about shaving soaps but what about BODY soaps? Recently I've been thinking more and more about trying natural body soaps such as these below.

Any thoughts on these bad boys? Worth the price? Will make my skin feel good again and not dry out?
I don't know about you, but for me $7.50+ per bar before shipping is WAY too much to pay for a daily soap. I have a bar of the Winter Survival seasonal that was given to me for Xmas, but I haven't tried it yet. I did recently put in an order at Stirling Soap Company though, their bars are much more reasonably priced at $3.00-$3.50 per bar, and they use the same all-natural ingredients. I'm hoping that using real soap instead of detergent bars will help with my chronically dry skin.

Fair enough. I just tried that website and shipping is $6.. triple the cost of the soap itself.. ouch.. I guess ill stock up on some soaps

Yeah. He uses flat-rate boxes though, so if you are ordering multiple soaps the shipping charge doesn't change that much. As with mostly anything we buy on this forum, small orders aren't the greatest idea due to shipping costs.
Then again, I usually try to buy soaps in batches of ten or around there, so for me shipping costs aren't that big a deal. You have to keep in mind the bars are quite large, too. 5oz for Stirling and 7oz for Chagrin Valley, so that drives shipping costs up, too.

I use a lot of the CV bars, shampoo and body and if you order more than a few at the same time the shipping isn't that bad. Plus, I use a sea sponge so one of their bars will last me over a month, and I shower usually twice a day. One of their shampoo bars usually lasts me over three months, and I average washing my hair once a day. It's up to you whether it's worth it or not, I usually order from them twice a year and some of their bars work great, some I didn't like. Now that I have found which ones work best for me, I think it's worth it. Keep in mind most of their bars are around the 7 ounce size, give or take.

I can attest to this. Shipping cost are extremely prohibitive to potential buyers when you look at just ordering two or three bars. Unfortunately for an artisan soap maker where profit margins are razor thin, there really isn't any way to ship for lower than First Class Mail, Parcel Post, or Flat Rate boxes without just giving the product away. It is a double edged sword though for a potential new buyer. Do you order just a few bars and increase the price per bar based on shipping, or do you order a dozen bars of a product you have never tried to keep shipping costs down and just hope you don't end up with 4 ounce rectangles of garbage?

Repeat buyers who trust a product enough to buy in bulk benefit the most from shipping costs, as well as providing the best value to the seller. Honestly, for most zones in the United States, there is only a fifty cent to one dollar price difference to ship 4 bars as opposed to eight or nine. After that, you can use the medium flat rate boxes, and for three bars, the small flat rate box will work.
