Can this be made pretty?

I recently bought this new from B/S/T. All the proceeds from the sale went to the Komen foundation in Sue's name.

The seller described it perfectly and the pictures were great so I knew the new was in user grade shape.

My question.. if I try to polish the scuffs out of it will it work or will it just take more plating off?

Thanks everyone,
Scott

Yeah-
You can try to polish (i.e., shine it up) with something non-abrasive to make it look prettier. Mechanical polishing to remove scratches works by removing everything that's above the height of the scratch so that the new surface is at the depth that used to be the bottom of the scratch. That would pretty much take off all the plating, especially since the gold plating on those razors was thin to begin with.

Looks peculiar. Most NEWs I've seen come down to brass or copper. That one looks like it's gold over nickel.

I just looked at the razor again up close. you are right it is gold over nickel. And looking closer it may be an old handle on a new head. I will report with more info.

I have one that is gold plated over nickle. The gold plating was looked really bad so I took a microfiber cloth and some MAAS and polished down to the nickle. It looks great now.

+1 I polished mine down to copper on the head and end of the handle. It's really shiny, but two toned, which looks nice IMO.
